You’ve been dying to know about her love life, right? Oh
yes, she’s definitely attached…. attached to her cars. Her current beau is an
Integra. She hasn’t named it yet as she says, “I
wanna be sure this time… But the name of my AF3 car is Russ.”
2.
Gaby and Speedtech Asia “It’s
a very reliable team. I’ve known the team manager for quite sometime. I met him
in the earlier part of my racing career and he’s a good teacher, he tried
teaching me a few tips in karting. What
some people don’t get to realize is that racing is not just a driver’s sport,
it’s with the whole team, in order to get that good, you have to have a good
team to back you up. It’s
a mutual benefit. I’m also glad that I’m there. It’s a very good team. They’re
very serious. They’re very precise. What I really like about them is that they
are like one big family.” |

3. The
Love Story with Motor Sports So
when did the love for motor sports begin? --- Rooted in her
childhood. “My father has always been interested in cars… I remember when I was younger, he used to tell us kids, ‘okay for every car you clean, I’ll give you twenty or fifty pesos.’ Natuwa kami. That’s a lot of money, back in the day. The catch, we weren’t allowed to use the hose, just a toothbrush… But you know, it was like playtime for me. I was just there the whole day cleaning the cars. May balde ako saka toothbrush.”

First Driving Experience Gaby
was sixteen during her very memorable first driving
experience. “My
father taught me in a manual car which was my first boyfriend, the RAV4, I
called it SPIKE. He
taught me in our village. Our village kasi is, it’s up in the mountains. As
soon as I learned how to pop up ten minutes after our lesson, the clutch thing,
it was like ‘okay go go down the cliff,
turn around,’ and when I was on my way up in the middle, it was like, ‘stop right here, and then put on the hand break.’ Now you
should learn how to mix balance the clutch and the gas wherein you don’t need to
break and it has to just be steady. And I was already panicking because it was a
major road in our village. Everyone was stuck at the back and my dad was like,
‘no let them pass, let them pass’ and
I was like, oh, please don’t let me hit anything.” 5.

Moment with Montoya Oh
yes! One of her racing idols, Juan Pablo Montoya checked out on her.
“When
I was racing with BMW, he noticed the uniform that I was wearing. Usually makapal mukha ko eh, like I can just
come up to him and hey can I have an autograph? The first time I saw him, na-star struck ako, I looked down, and I
was just walking straight… |

And
what can she say about his shift to NASCAR? “It’s
sad that he didn’t do well this year in Formula 1. Well it’s his opinion. He
said it’s not a driver’s race. Coz with Formula 1, it’s a bit technical in a way
that the team, the management really has a lot to do with it.
It
would be sad that I won’t be seeing him in F1 anymore.” 7. Drag Racing “Ironically never tried….
I like looking at their cars. They’re very pretty. I thought when I started with
circuit or SLALOM, the cars would be as pretty as the cars used in drag racing,
but apparently it was a different
story.” |

Adventure Lover As
Gaby won’t be left behind in the race, the same is true with her love for the
outdoors and adventure. When asked about the other sports she still wants to
try… “This (racing) is my main sport na eh. Before, I was trying out stuff, then I landed on this one… But there are a couple of sports that I want to try like I really wanna try kayak boarding… I still wanna try little things. I was supposed to go white water (rafting) with my teammates.”  |
