Ylenia was born two years after the Rakash and Prydaens fled their homeland to the west. Being born and raised in a new land, Ylenia grew up curious about her people's homeland. When she was a small child she learned from her mother that she had an older brother who had been separated from her parents when they first arrived in the lands. While her parents believed her brother was most likely dead, Ylenia believed in her heart he was alive and well. She made a personal vow to look for him when she was older.

Ylenia, despite her optimistic attitude, was incredibly shy as a child. She often wondered why the other races looked at her and her family with such strange stares. She only seemed to find confidence to speak up around strangers when she was in moonskin. Due to her shyness, she often retreated to the safety of her home and buried herself in books.

A few months before her 13th birthday, undead invaded the village she and her parents were living in. It was during the last night of Katamba's full phase. Ylenia hid while her parents went to defend the village. Ylenia blacked out as the moon changed phases. She didn't wake until the next morning. By that time, her mother had been killed and her father had fled, abandoning her.

Despite her mother's death and her father's desire not to raise her, Ylenia maintained a positive attitude. She knew her mother wouldn't want her moping around. She gathered what belongings she could and decided she'd find her brother, thinking that they could help one another.

Of course, with no leads whatsoever, she ended up wandering aimlessly around Therengia for a few years before settling in Riverhaven. During her time in Riverhaven, she came across a story about the Rakash that caught her interest; the legend that Katamba had once been gold. It lead her to an interest in studying the heavens. At the age of twenty-one, she had enough money to go to the Crossing to join the Moon-mage Guild.

Shortly after she joined the guild, she heard rumors of a Rakash bearing the same name as her brother. Seeking him out, she learned he was indeed her brother. What she had hoped to be a joyous meeting was anything but. She found her brother in a drunken stupor, trying to forget his life. She hopes that since they found each other, he realizes how much it means to her that he's around.

It was around the time she found her brother that she also discovered something about herself; she liked women. She spent a brief time married to a very close friend though the marriage wasn't that serious.

The divorce with her friend and the subsequent events have caused her to drift from her old friends and lead her to form the pack.
