| I remember the first time i saw Die Hard, and i couldnt help thinking what is that kool gun that German terrorist is using. Wasnt til i grew up i found out it was a Steyr Aug Military. So while the gun i have isnt the exact same its close. Really close since its the same gun just black and with no fixed scope. So how does it sit? Well its heavier than my P90 (apparently the heaviest Marui AEG) and with no sling it does wear your arm out. But apart from that the gun is comfortable and easy to shoot, the only thing i dont like is that the safety switch will dig into your fingers around the grip. The front grip can be moved to 3 different postitions straight down, at a 45 degree angle or up next to the barrel which is handy if you want to hold it like a normal rifle. The scope mount can have a number of scope attached which gives you a much wider range of choices than with the military version. When it comes to shooting the gun has a few unique little querks, for one the Aug doesnt have a selector switch. It only has a safety, so how does it shoot full auto and semi? simple. With a half pull of the trigger the gun will shoot 1 round, but when the trigger is pulled all the way back it goes full auto, which is always fun (especially for me and my trigger happy tendancies). The hop up is accessible through where the ejection port would be on the real gun, to access it you simply have to pull back the bolt lever to access the hop up. After a bit of fine tuning i found my rounds flying straight and true, until they drop to the floor. The gun can easily empty a 330 round hicap in under a minute. The battery is housed in the butt and to access it you have to take off the butt plate which is rubber and easy to remove and replace. So how does the gun rate. Well for me the Aug has most of the requirements i look for, it looks unique and is comfortable to use. Also unlike M4's and MP5's everybody isnt walking around with them. So your armoury wont end up looking identical to someone elses. Its easy to shoot and accurate which is always a must. So if i had to give this gun a rating from 1 to 10 i'd have to give it a 7 and a half, whilst it has loads of good point it has its drawback, like being heavy which isnt really great when you find yourself running down a hill with a load of enemies shooting at you. Also it would have to lose a point for the magazine, while the magazines themselves arent a problem the bullpup design means sometimes i find my self shooting without having a magazine my gun. Something that wont happen to me with a P90. - Chris |
