Alena was born to peasant farmers who lived and served on the land owned by a Noble Lord. She had a happy childhood, although she was required to work hard, helping her mother in the house and her father in the field as she was their only child. She was bright and quick and learned to read and write and do sums in the temple, the priest there being taken with her intelligence. She soon got a job working for the Lord of her small village, and while he never abused her or mistreated her, she was kept firmly in her place and required to be respectful at all times to those of higher rank.

As her parents got too old to work, she started to work harder, sending them money so they could pay the rent on their house, not wanting them to be cast out now that they could no long work, and she started roaming, looking always for better jobs and positions so she could continue to support her parents. She eventually made her way to the Royal City and got into the castle. There, she met the Magestrate, who was reorganizing his council after some kind of troubles, and because of her skill with numbers and record keeping, she was put in charge of collecting and keeping track of the taxes and expenses of the whole county. She put aside some of her pay and bought a small house near the castle grounds and sent for her parents, moving them in and making sure there was a garden for them and a few servants to take care of them, feeling better now that she didn't have to worry about never seeing them again or about them becoming homeless.
