| Fun Most Of The Time This photo demonstrates that fishing is not all fun. On the occasion of this perticular citation, I did not have my fishing license in the boat. I was untangling a trot line and had one end tied in the top of a tree and was floating it out as I untangled it on foam to keep it untangled. I had spent about an hour on it and was almost finished, when along came John, Law that is. Not on Ray Roberts Lake though. I didn't have any bait in the boat, the line was tied in the top of a tree, and I explained that I was only trying to untangle it, and my license was in the pickup not a hundred yards up that bank. If he would allow me to tie up there and run up and get it, it would only take a few minutes. He said I was fishing and had to have my license in the boat and started writing the ticket. Which reminds me of a story that someone told me was true: While traveling along at about 10 miles over the speed limit, a car topped the hill and was imidiately met with red lights. The usual question of why the rush? The speeder replied that he was late for work. What do you do for a living was asked, as the ticket was being written? I'm a rectum stretcher, I take a little bitty one and get my fingers in there and stretch and pull till I can get both hands in there then I pull some more until I get it about 6 ft wide. The ticket writer, obviously bewildered asked, what do they do with a 6 ft. butthole? I really don't know but I think they give them a badge, and a radar gun, or boat! |

| Occasionally, I have the company of folks other than the peons. The reason I say this is because when the ladies go, I am the peon. Number one and two, at least most of the time. I have been blessed with a few that will get me bait out of the livewell, using the dip net and a few that will even bait the hook! It is my feeling that catching the big ones is not just a guy thing. Fishing and camping should be enjoyed by all members of the family, especially youngun's between the ages of 9 and 12. Under 9 is just too young for this type fishing in most cases, because it requires a lot of attention on the line, and it is hard to run a line and watch them too. But each case is different, I have a nephew that, by 6 yrs, was able to go with us. His dad and I were both watching him pretty close though. He is now a fixture at the annual trip, at least for the weekend and considers himself head peon. He starts the first day they get here working on his dad to stay another day or 2. Not much luck yet, got to go to school. Only thing I can tell him is stay in school and get a good education or he will be working all the time instead of fishing! I think, hope, he gets the picture. If I were to take a child that required attention, and didn't know him, he would be the captain and he and I would boss only. That would require 2 other capable people in the boat. |
