| I have no training on medicine and no authority to make prescriptions of any kind. All the information presented on this page is based on my interpretation of several books and websites. All the specific information about herbs and uses is paraphrased from Prescription for Nutritional Healing. Two books I recommend to anyone interested in learning more about herbs and their uses are: Prescription for Nutritional Healing (by Phyllis A. Balch CNC, and James F. Balch MD) and The Nature of Animal Healing (by Martin Goldstein DVM). |
| I have some experience using herbs to aid hamsters in pregnancy and related matters. Thus herbs used to help in pregnancy, fertility and childbirth for rodents is the main focus of this page. Many of the herbs presented could also be used for other animals as well as people. Please do your research before using herbs for yourself or your pets. Just because herbs are natural does not mean they are safe. I have found that the best way to administer herbs or medications to rodents is to mix the appropriate dose into about 1/2 teaspoon of either vanilla pudding or yogurt (any flavor). This mixture should then be loaded into a feeding syringe allowing the dose to be squirted into the mouth or cheek pouch of the animal. Usually the animals become cooperative since they enjoy the tasty snack. Similarly, medications may be mixed in to a prepared canned food for a dog or a cat. Some of the herbs should not be given internally, these are clearly labeled. Instead of feeding these herbs, a shampoo or topical ointment should be prepared. There is more information about this following the specific herbs. |
