~One year later~ We skated onto the ice to a thunderous ovation. Dominic and I had been working on a new exhibition program for the past three months and were going to use it for the tour. I was just hoping that this year's CSOI would be slightly less eventful than last year. Everything had ended well however. Colin had, much to everyone's disappointment, been declared too ill to perform the rest of the stops (something about some broken ribs...) and Lonna and I had managed to patch up our relationship. We simply agreed that Colin was the only real jerk! Our first stop this year was in Kitchener. Dominic and I were delighted to be able to finally perform the new program. As an added bonus, my family was in the audience watching, and I was incredibly excited. The first strains of our music filled the arena What if I told you it was all meant to be Would you believe me Would you agree It's almost that feelin' It was OUR song. It was the song wed been listening to the first time we danced together as a couple and it seemed fitting that we should use it for our first exhibition program as a couple. Wed been dating now for almost a year and I had never been happier in my life. I grinned as the song came to an end. Some people wait a lifetime For a moment like this Ohh Like this The arena erupted into cheers. I could barely hear myself thinking. I started to skate to the side and Dominic tagged along. We wandered out of the bright lights for a minute, catching our breath. In a shadowy corner, Maxim and a slim brunette were making out. I simply couldnt resist, Ooooh! Maxim, whos the new chick? Dominic made a strangled sound and dragged me away. The applause still hadnt dimmed and we headed back on the ice for an encore as the chorus started to play again. A moment like this Some people wait a lifetime For a moment like this Some people search forever For that one special kiss Ohh, I can't believe it's happening to me Some people wait a lifetime For a moment like this I was skating off for the second time when Dominic grabbed my hand and dragged me back to center ice. Wha? Nick was up to something What are you doing? Ill get you for this, dont you doubt it. Just come. Grumbling, I sullenly followed him. The screams finally quieted and Dominic skated over to the boards to fetch something, before coming back over to me. It was when he got down on one knee that butterflies began winging around somewhere inside my stomach. Id been hoping this question would get asked, but in front of 25 000 people? It was so so un-Nickish. Normally he was a very private person. Which idiot had put him up to this? I glanced over at the boards and scanned along until I found the other members of the tour standing grinning. Nadia? Maybe. Sergei? Unlikely. Mitch? Definitely. He had better watch his back. I continued my private conversation. Jenny? Duh. Mathieu? If Jenny was involved then he would be involved. Maxim, who was still covered in lipstick, had probably had something to do with it. Cate? Yes. I had gone onto the next person when my brain suddenly registered what it had seen. No wonder the name had seemed wrong. I didnt usually talk about my younger sister and the tour members in the same sentence. Cate was a soccer player not a skater Her light brown hair had escaped its ponytail and she was grinning recklessly. Ally, honey, I love you. Ive loved for ages it just took me awhile to realize it. To realize that my feelings went way beyond friendship. Dominic was talking but my mind was on something else. Cate was standing next to Maxim. So, I want to ask you now, if you will marry me. Saying yes, you would make me the happiest man on earth. As I watched Maxim slipped an arm around Cates waist. Ally? An answer would be nice. Cate was kissing Maxim! Cate was kissing Maxim! I crowed. I couldnt believe it. My little sister wasnt quite sixteen-years-old! I guess Lexei wasnt that much older. He had just turned eighteen Probably. Not the answer I was really looking for, Nick muttered. Silly, you dont really need an answer do you? Isnt it obvious what Im going to say? No, He replied pouting. Yes. Of course Ill marry you. I love you too! When I resolved not to cry I may have been somewhat unrealistic. Nick practically had to lead me off the ice because I couldnt see through the tears. I couldnt help remembering what had been happening this week last year. There had been tears then as well, but this time it was different. These were tears of joy. And in truth, I dont think that Id ever been happier. The End
