Episode 45: "Fools Rush In"

Written by: Yaniv Shlamberg, Sascha Chrétien, Michael Wilson, Herbert Hensley and Ethan Riley.

Adam rose and took the stand. The courtroom remained restless, forcing the judge to pound his gavel for order. The looks on Adam’s family’s faces--his mother, his father, his siblings, were heart-breaking. What would he do? What would he say? Adam stood there stone-faced as he was sworn in.

One or two flashbulbs went off, as the reporters got carried away, trying to capture the dramatic moment. Judge Kennedy pointed his gavel at them. “Do that once more, you people, and out you go. I’ll not tell you again!”

The reporters sheepishly returned to their seats, embarrassed. Fallon rolled her eyes at the nerve of those men, while Krystina shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her attention drawn away from the trial itself. What was that Susie Moroboshi up to now? She had watched as Susie had dropped a pencil in a very obvious way, bending down to pick it up, her fanny practically in Kevin’s face. But Krystina had had enough of that! She dug a rubber band out of her purse and snapped it real good on Susie’s bum, slightly shocking the would-be attorney and causing her to gasp.

“Is there a problem, Miss Moroboshi?” Judge Kennedy sighed.

“Er, no, your honor,” Susie said with a red face.

“You are second-chair, Miss Moroboshi. Please sit in it.”

Susie returned to her chair, very embarrassed, catching the shocked look on Kevin’s face. As if they didn’t have enough problems!

The attention now reverted to Adam, and his testimony. Fisher paused in his notes for added drama. Then he rose, walking straight up to the witness stand. “Mr. Carrington, I understand you have something to add to these proceedings. Something that has not come up in court before.”

“That is very true, Mr. Fisher,” Adam said, unemotionally.

“Could you please tell the court, then, what you have to say?”

“Yes, yes I will.” Adam’s eyes averted the gaze of his many family members in the room. He stared straight ahead. “Everything…everything Mr. Fairchild told you on the stand yesterday was true. Save for one omission. My nephew, Blake Colby, approved those materials, willfully, to save a buck!”

“My God! Adam!” Alexis stood up suddenly.

“Adam, you traitorous snake!” Jeff shouted.

“Please, all of you! Sit down!” the Judge ordered.

There was a considerable amount of chaos in the courtroom as again the reporters jumped up, popping off their flashbulbs. One went off a little too close to Judge Kennedy’s face.

“Oh! Damn it!” the Judge roared. “Bailiff, throw those imbeciles out of here!” The Judge slammed down his gavel again, this time whacking his hand in the process. “Damn it!” he howled, his hand swelling with pain.

“Is this a trial or MadTV?” Alexis whispered to Dex.

The Judge clearly could not continue at this time. The courthouse nurse was brought in to see to the judge’s hand. She proclaimed that he had a small fracture and could not continue. An ambulance was called and the judge taken away.

The courtroom suddenly seemed silent. Adam still sat there stupidly on the stand. “So what’s going to happen now?” Susie whispered to Kevin.

“Most likely the judge will be out for quite a while. But the trial must continue. Another judge will be brought in.”
