"Comeback"  Denver Memorial Hospital, Delivery Room
“It’s okay, it’s over now.” Steven stated as Sammy Jo let go of his hand and looked up at him. “Did I mention how much I hate you right now?” Sammy Jo tried to breathe more steadily. She was sweating and her contractions were getting closer. Steven laughed and kissed her head. “I love you too. “ They were in the delivery room for the past couple of hours. Steven wiped Sammy Jo’s forehead as the nurse walked in. “How are you feeling, Sammy Jo?” She asked kindly. “Fine until the next contraction, Susan,” Sammy Jo smiled wearily. “Good. Dr. Martinez is still in surgery. So I asked them to notify him as soon as he comes out, but if you go into delivery sooner will get him out immediately.” Susan headed to the heart monitor to check the vitals. “Thanks!” Sammy Jo said. “Dr. Kay should be here soon.” Susan smiled. “Anything I can get you?” Steven asked. “Some more ice.” Sammy Jo handed him a pink plastic cup. “I’ll be right back.” He nodded and headed out. “He’s so cute.” Susan stated as Sammy Jo smiled in acknowledgement. Steven smiled as he walked down the corridor. Dr. Kay came from the other direction. “Hi, Steven,” She smiled at him. “Dr. Kay!” He nodded back. “How is she?” Dr. Kay asked. “She’s doing great.” Steven stated. “Good, I’ll see you in there.” Dr. Kay left. It took him several minutes to find the ice container and then he headed back. Sammy Jo was wheeled out of the room when he returned. “Let’s take her to OR 3.” Dr. Kay stated. “Doctor, what’s going on?” Steven followed them into the elevator. “There have been complications. We’re taking her to the OR for a caesarian. Everything will be alright.” Dr. Kay explained as Steven grabbed Sammy Jo’s hand. They left the elevator and entered the OR’s waiting room. “Steven, please stay here.” Susan advised him. Steven kissed Sammy Jo’s lips. “I love you, Sammy Jo!” Steven called after her. Sammy Jo smiled as they rolled her into the OR. Steven watched the doors flip back with a pink plastic cup full of ice in his right hand. And now...
