Yumei is the last in a race of mermaids who lived in the Hai-Lan region a long time ago. Her life is a sad one due to the fact that she and her mother were ridiculed by the other mermaids because her mother fell in love with a human. Since then, Yumei lost all signs of feelings and disguised herself as a human. In search of the Cerulean Lapis, she is picked up by a fisherman and his son, with whom she forms some sort of a relationship with. Because of the overwhelming sorrow inside of her, she kills herself by swimming into the whirlpool.

Yumei is one of the best magic-users in the game due to her good defensive capabilities, which is something magic users lack most. You'll be pretty much overflooded with magic users by the time you get her, so when Freya asks for a swimmer, Yumei is the best choice for that, hands down. Other than that, she's as good as magic users go.
