 MILE
If you want to see my eyes light up, then mention anything dealing with cars and racing, mainly import racing and car shows. During the summer, or most of the time, you will find me at the race track, mainly Colonial Beach Raceway. ColonialBeach Raceway is located in Colonial   Beach, Virginia. For those of you who don't know, you will find it if you are traveling towards Maryland, or WestmorelandPark. Most of the time when I go I take the route heading to Tappahannock, Virginia which is the way to go to Westmoreland Park. I live in the country (MiddlesexCounty), so this ride is just more country to me. There are lots of tall skyscraper trees, and wild critters like coons and possums. (HA, HA I had to put in a country metaphor) After awhile you'll see some traffic lights, fast food places, and some fancy restaurants, but after you pass all of that it's all backwoods.
The track is where I can kick back for however many hours and think about nothing except if it took that Honda (or any import), Chevy, or Ford (mustangs only) 6 sec., 7 sec., or 8 sec., to get down the track. If you were to see me and talk to me you wouldn't guess that I would be in to the import scene, or anything dealing with cars. You would probably think she's quiet she doesn't look in any way mechanically inclined. I beg to differ. Soon I plan to go from being just a spectator to being more involved. I have my own project car in the works, a 2000 Honda Civic Si. Somethings that I love while at the track are the smell of Cam 2, a type of gas used in some race cars. Cam 2 has a sweet nectar smell, almost like honeysuckle in the morning as the dew glistens on the green green leaves. Cam 2 doesn't have a strong harsh smell like your regular gasohol. Another thing I like, is the sound of a camshaft cackling as a driver sets up for a burnout or staging up hoping to catch that O light, (when there's no hesitation at the tree, racers catch the light exactly as it turns green.) Let's not forget the smell of hot asphalt and the smoke from all the burnouts.
When I'm at the track, you couldn't give me anything else better to do. So for me it's not the club, the walk in the park, or the calm stream of tranquility that does it for me. Don't get me wrong, those things are very nice, but there's nothing like a weekend at the track. Whether some fries an engine, throws an axle, or snaps a driveshaft in half, it's still very enjoyable. Oh yeah and there is food available, but I don't eat while I'm there. I get my food or fuel from just being there. Colonial beach is a quarter mile track it's not real showy like for example BuddsCreek, located in Maryland, but it serves the purpose. There plenty of lighting for when it gets dark and room to park on the green green grass. It's a track where people go to watch, dream, and mostly to hush up that big mouth friend whose been talking smack all week. There is always going to be someone there with a lot of mouth, but when the rubber meets the asphalt, it turns out that they were half stepping, meaning that after the race they will always have some excuse such as, I need a carburetor, or I need to turn my distributor cap just a bit.
I wish I could be more descriptive but when I go to the track I'm not looking at the terrain or the vivid wildflowers that may have taken root there. I'm looking to see what's under the hood. Is it a big shot of NOS or a little shot? Is it a 350 small block (SB) or a 289 (engine size)? Is it vtec dohc? What kind of intake Victor series (for domestic cars) or CAS (cold air system) for imports? What kind of graphics is on that new paint job? This is where I go to relax and forget about different things even if it only lasts every mile. This is my minor attraction.
