This Ain't No Old Country Buffet
While at the gym my cousin, ex sister in-law and I get a little rumble in our tummies. We decided to go to a buffet style restaurant called the Chesapeake Bay where they serve seafood. The Chesapeake Bay is located in Gloucester, Virginia on route seventeen. I decided to call to find out the prices and what they were serving. It was Tuesday night, and to my surprise they only serve the seafood buffet on the weekend. During the rest of the week they serve a country buffet, so they said. The country buffet costs $7.99 and the seafood buffet costs $16.99. We decided to go even though we originally had seafood on the brain, but hey we were hungry.
When we arrived we sat in the non smoking section. We ordered our drinks and then proceeded to the buffet. There was some seafood on the buffet but nothing to run home and tell your mom about. They had popcorn shrimp that looked liked salad shrimp and some fried oval shaped concoction that tasted like crab so I guess it was suppose to be a crab cake. The rest of the buffet included some chicken smothered in some mushrooms, meatballs in gravy, mashed potatoes that were flat and mushy, hushpuppies and the rest was salad fixings, fruit, and desserts.
I was speechless and not because the food was good. I was trying to figure out who in the world thought they were so much of a good chef that they had to put this mess on the display. The mash potatoes were the consistency of apple sauce. My little sister can make better mash potatoes, and I thought she was a bad cook. The chicken and mushroom was bland, no taste at all. The hushpuppies, meatballs, fruit, and the dessert all tasted fine. I didn't try any salad, but my ex sister in-law did and she seemed satisfied. I wasn't the only one in my party that complained but we had fun anyway, because I'm always laughing at something or someone.
The service was okay. It was our server first night working so we gave him some slack. All of the employees greeted us with a friendly smile, and the restaurant looked clean. I probably would go to this restaurant again but on the weekend to check out the seafood buffet. Would I recommend it to any one?The only way I would recommend this restaurant is if they fired the cook. I would also recommend that they add more food to the buffet like some country fried steak, or chicken, fried chicken, baked chicken, meatloaf, etc. I think the Chesapeake Bay was lacking the Chesapeake.
