About Dylan Wan
Please check out the dylanwan.blogspot.com for my blog.
Welcome to my Yahoo! Blog
I am living in San Francisco bay area, California for more then 10 years. I enjoyed the working environment and the climate here.

You will not find much in this page since I do not update my Yahoo! 360 blog often. I typically update the blog I have on blogger - dylanwan.blogspot.com

However, I like the other services provided by Yahoo!, such as email, group, and news. I also have an Yahoo! Messenger account, but most people in my company use AIM or our own Messenger services.

I started using Google Maps more often nowadays. I do not use neither Yahoo! or Google's calendar since I typically keep my work calendar up to date on the calendar within my company intranet.

I use the google search engine all the time and almost never use Yahoo! Search for web search. I use del.icio.us to keep my bookmark for the interesting Internet sites. I still use my Bookmark in my Firefox for all the intranet sites. I also use the Avant browser when I need to open any web site that requires IE.

I use the Thunderbird to read my corporate email while I know many people use Outlook. I browse Youtube at least once a week. I like to search the Indian movies with English subtitle on Youtube. I like to watch TV - Chinese Drama about Chinese history especially about the Ching dynasty. I also like to watch Japanese drama a lot. Korean drama is fine, but not my favorite.

I am learning Japanese right now. I am listening to the Pimseular Japanese program. I am looking for someone to practice. If you can do web chat with Japanese and can bare with my poor Japanese, I am happy to be your pal.

This year (2007) I am studying Data Warehouse Design. It is extremely fun for me to learn Data Warehousing designs due to my previous background in data modeling and application architecture. As most of other people in this field, I am reading books and articles from Ralph Kimbal and from the publisher Wiley. I maintain a blog for keeping my BI study notes - dylanwan.wordpress.com.

I am particularly interested in applying the Master Data Management process with the Data Warehousing. I feel that I can best leverage my prior experiences in fields of Customer Data Hub and Customer Data Integration.

I am a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from PMI and a certified Earned Value Professional (EVP) from AACE. I studied the project management methodology for two reasons. I was developing the project management software as a solution architect and as a product manager. I want to learn how people manage a project so I can ensure that our software can satisfy the requirements. The other reason is that I have been working in software development for more then ten years. I now know how important the formal project management is to the software development process.

In my tenure in developing project management software, I also get involved learning construction management with the concentration in Project Cost Control. I like that field a lot but unfortunately, I was asked to work on something else after so many mergers happened within my company.

Another related field which I spent my time on is to develop a capital budgeting and planning application. I can master the financial metrics like NPV, IRR, Paid back Period, etc. It is fun to see that these tools taught in my financial management courses can be used in the real life.

I am now going back to my core competency - date modeling and application integration. I think that it will be fun for me in the next few years to get deeper in the area of business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, OLAP, etc.
