The Danvers Blue "D" team (3rd & 4th grade) kicked off their season with a 24-8 win Sunday at Masconomet. The victory was a true team effort on both sides of the ball, with each player contributing to the win. Thanks to solid blocking by the entire line, lead by linemen Ryan McGregor and Jim Walsh, along with TE Cole Johnson, the offense had a great day. The offensive attack was lead by running backs Joseph Masterson (with 2 TDs of 18 and 45 yards), Declan Gill (with a 48 yard TD), Jack Anderson and Matt Andreas. The defense held Masco scoreless until the final two minutes, with key tackles by linebackers Dean Borders, Matt Reidy, Jack Anderson and safety Joe Soucy. The Blue "D" Falcons look to keep the success going as the take on  Newburyport next Sunday.

Danvers Blue "D" Team @ Newburyport - Week 2 - September 13, 2008

The Danvers Blue "D" team (3rd & 4th grade) met a tough opponent in the Newburyport Red "D" team, falling to the Red Clippers, 20-16. Danvers played tough for most of the game, having a lead until the 3 minute mark. Linemen Tom Arsenault and Joe Nicolo, along with TE Marc Scarfo, provided some key blocks to help the offensive attack, led by running backs Matt Andreas (with a 42 yard TD run) and Joseph Masterson (with a 70 yard TD run). Dean Borders and Jack Anderson provided the "points after". The defense played tough, stuffing Newburyport's extra point attempts not once, but twice. Key tackles by Jack Anderson, Justin Drew, Zach Kelly, Isaac Downs and a "swatted" pass by LB Andrew Narkevicius, helped keep the lead for Danvers until the end of the 4th quarter. A Clipper TD to take the lead with 3 minutes left was followed by a great TD run by Andreas. However, that TD was called back for a penalty with one minute left in regulation, to seal the fate of the the Falcons. The Blue "D" Falcons look to get back on the winning track when the travel to Amesbury next Sunday.
Danvers Blue "D" Team @ Amesbury - Week 3 - September 20, 2008

The "team" defense of the Danvers Blue "D" team (3rd & 4th grade) set the tone for the day as the Falcons rolled to shutout Amesbury 22-0 in their third road game of the season. Defensively, key tackles by Justing Drew, Marc Scarfo, Joe Soucy and Jim Walsh helped by the rush of defensive linemen Chris Hussey, Matt Walke, and Justin Mastroelli held Amesbury to very few positive yards for the day. The entire defense essentially shut down the Amesbury offense, yielded very few yards with their "gang" tackles, countless tackles behind the line of scrimmage and giving up only one first down all day. With the defense doing their job, the offense supplied the points to solidify the win. The offensive attack, led by Matt Andreas (with 2 TDs of 60 and 9 yards) and Robert Tibbetts (with a 4th quarter, 15 yard scamper) was helped by the blocking of offensive linemen Jake Hebert and Kieran Moriarty. The 2-1 Blue "D" Falcons continue their extended road trip next Sunday as they head to Winthrop to take on the Vikings.
Danvers Blue 3rd Grade Team @ Masco - Week 4 - September 27, 2008

The Danvers 3rd Grade Falcons traveled to Topsfield to take on the Chieftains of Masco on a rain-soaked Pye Brook Field. This was the 3rd graders first solo game without their 4th grade teammates. The game was a defensive battle for the first half. Great tackles by Shane Smith (who also caused and recovered a fumble), Matt Reidy, Jordan Montiero, and Tahg Coakley kept the Chieftans scoreless for much of the game. A 40-yard spring to the end zone by Zach Talbot provided the Falcons with their only points fo the day in this tough defensive battle that came down to the last play. Unfortunately, Masco came out on top, 14-8.
Danvers Blue 3rd Grade Team @ Home vs. Hamilton-Wenham - Week 6 - October 4, 2008

The Danvers JVD-Blue Falcons finally ended their long road trip and played their first home game of the season. However, on their return home, they were met by their toughest opponent yet in the "Little" Generals of Hamilton-Wenham. Despite a small roster, the Generals had a fast and strong team, making it tough for the Danvers offense to get things going. The offense struggles against H-W's mad rush, which stymied the Falcons with consistent penetration into the backfield. The Falcons held tough for much of the game but ultimately were unable to move the ball against the H-W defense. Defensively, the Falcons held touch again, not allowing any extra points following the General's three big plays for touchdowns. On defense, key plays by Matt Andreas, Joe Masterson, Joe Soucy, Jack Anderson, Matt Reidy and Justin Drew kept the game close. Danvers' only points came on an interception by Matt Andreas, which he returned 30 yards for a touchdown. In the end, the Generals came out on top with a 18-6 win. It's back on the road for the Falcons, as they head to Ipswich to take on the Tigers on October 18th.
