1. We don’t know who the Minoans are but we do know they were named Minoans after Minos a king of Crete. This information is available due to an archaeologist who unearthed the ruins.

 

2. Sparta’s location was good because they were isolated from other Greeks. More importantly though they looked down on all trade.

 

3. The Trojan War took place at Troy. We know this mostly because of a book by Homer known as the Iliad

 

4. Greece consists of many mountains and valleys. The farmers often settled in Islands to avoid being stuck in a valley.

 

5. Athens was the most powerful city state after the war. However they then organized the Delian league to stop the any Persian attacks.

 

6. The Peloponnesian war consisted of Athens and Sparta. Athenians lost due to a plague which killed around 33% of the people

 

7. These Greek theater origins emerged from religious festivals. Plays took place on a hill side so the people could see the elaborate costumes.

 

8. Alexander the great basically took over the whole Mediterranean world. Linking a vast area he also started many new cities.

 

9. The Hellenistic age was an age of a lot more art and more elaborate structures. This age also allowed there to be new schools but also more philosophy like math and science.

 

10. They were often surrounded by mountains. For the most part they tried to live by the see which led to the good navy they had.

 

11.  With the growing middle class of farmers and merchants these people would challenge land owners that led to oligarchy.

 

12. The democracy was built over time for the people of Rome. Today it affects many countries such as USA.

13. The kids of Sparta at often times had a difficult life. They lived with there mothers from birth to seven then they were sent off to be trained in the army.

 

14. This golden age happened after the marathon war. After being outnumbered two to one the Athenians still won.

 

15. Aristotle’s meritocracy was formed by comparing democracy, aristocracy, and monarchy. According to him democracy would cause mobs to form in the city.

 

16. Greeks thought they were better than everyone else. Also they were polytheistic believing in many gods.

1. Augusts created a society of fair tax system. He did this by having economic reforms. Another idea he had is a census which the whole world takes every ten years today.

 

2. Julius Caesar is one of the most famous of Rome’s generals. This is because he used ambition and determination to make revisions.

 

3. Hannibal is a young leader who hates the Romans mostly due to parental influences. His greatest accomplishment is the leader of the Carthaginian army.

 

4. Jesus although a Jew he created Christianity. He was successful in spreading his ideas to the people but eventually died by crucification.

 

5. Although one times a firm believer in Judaism he received a message from Jesus. After that he was one of the most firm believers in Christianity spreading the word.

 

6. This term is a about a Germanic leader the beat a roman leader. He helped cause the fall of Rome.

 

7. Ptolemy is a founding father of math. Also he made the theory that the earth was actually the center of the universe.

 

8. Virgil is a poet that loved the Greeks. Writing epic poems like homer did he hoped to create patriotism.

 

9. Martyrs are people who die for what they believe in. The biggest Martyr in history would have to be Jesus.

 

10. Mercenaries are people you pay and they will put there life on the line. Rome’s mercenaries were Germansas even though they truly didn’t like Rome.

 

11. Messiah is a great savior sent from God. Jesus is often times thought to be the

Messiah.

 

12. A patrician is members of landholding upper-class. 300 of these patricians were all the members of the senate.

 

13. A Plebeians is any farmer merchant or artisan. These were the people who tried to make the government more for the people.

 

14. Aqueduct is a stone structure that brings water down hills. He Romans used this to irrigate farm land

 

15. Heresies are opposite of the official church teachings. These heresies occurred a lot in the New Testament.

 

16. Legions are armies up to 5000 men. Legions led to Rome’s strong army

 

17. A republic is a thing of the people. The officials were appointed by the people.

 

18. A sect is a small group found in Judaism. This is also Christianity in the early stages.
