PLASFLMR

What does this do? Well, I was kinda disappointed in the flamethrower patches
I found out there. So, I decided to sit down and try and figure out dehacked
for myself. What I came up was a decent flamethrower, but I realized, you
gotta go pretty far to get the plasma rifle, especially in a deathmatch. So
the next version was to switch it so that the plasma (flamer) is switched with
the chaingun. Now you can get the flamer that much easier. But the original
reason for the flamer again became apparant, Aliens-TC. So I modified the
Aliens-TC patch so that it now changed weapon 6 to the flamer (I never used
that weapon anyway). So I wound up with 3 flamer patches depending on what
you want to do with them.

What they do:
Well, what I wanted from the patch was:
    1) Limited range: What fun is it to have a flamer that reaches across
the room? Well, it took me a while to figure it out, but I did it.

    2) Stickyness: I wanted it to be that if you shot the wall, it would stay
there. I kinda hoped that when it stuck there it would cause damage to
those who walked through it untill it burned out, but since I can't
change the physical characteristics of the explosions etc. I wound up
sticking with a delayed explosion. In other words, when you shoot the
wall or a creature, several seconds later, that spot explodes causing
damage. To compensate, I made the actual shot coming out of the gun
minimum damage and allowing the explosion to do most of the damage.
******NOTE: If you shoot a whole lot of shots, it may slow down your computer.
Remember, each shot is a viable object for several seconds until it
detonates. Subsequently you can receive ALOT of damage from the
       explosion.

    3) Fairness: I wanted to make the weapon fair to the monsters to use
with it's own unique twists and nuances. Hey, this is not a super-
weapon patch. It's more like a new weapon. Eventually I will have
graphics patches out to change the look of the shots and gun and ammo.

    4) Ammo: I changed some of the messages to say fuel/flamer or whatever
to make the action more appropriate. I also upped the amount of ammo
picked up since fuel tends to get burnt fast.
(Think of it as 3 (6) canisters of fuel with 100 parts of fuel in it.)

Subsequently I made 3 different variations of the patch.

    flamer1a.deh

This just changes the plasma rifle to the flamer. Still a challenge to
find on the later levels of doom. Makes the flamer valuable.

    flamer1b.deh

This changes all occurances of the chaingun to the plasma gun(flamer) and
plasma to chaingun. This is meant to be used for deathmatches and/or
coop matches since the shotgun/flamer combination can be a powerful combo
if used together in coop. In deathmatch, who cares about lives, just kick
    a**.

    flamer1c.deh

This patch is for use after you have installed the Aliens-TC patch. This
patch changes the smartgun into a flamer. I've found it rather usefull
for flushing out the game/frying them before they get you. Just watch out
for those tight corridors, you might fry yourself.

Usage:
Included in the zip file should be the following files:
        flamer1a.deh See Above
        flamer1b.deh See Above
        flamer1c.deh See Above
        original.deh Original picture of Doom.Exe
        dehacked.exe Dehacked v2.0
        flmrinst.bat Installation Batch file

type flmrinst for a listing of the parameters to use to install the various
patches.

***IMPORTANT Make sure you back up your Doom Executable. This only works on
Doom 1.666 (Maybe 1.7, not available at this time to test). And most
importantly, make sure all of the above files are in the same directory
as you store Doom unless you know what you are doing.

Disclaimer:
I'm not responsible for any executables that are permanantly corrupted.
Although I would greatly appreciate e-mail telling me what happened.
If this patch is included in any CD-ROM's or any other software package
that someone is making money off of, I ask only that these files be kept
the way they are and 1 copy is sent to me. Also, if any levels are
designed around this patch, I would greatly appreciate e-mail telling me
where I can get that PWAD (Hey, I still like playing new levels). Any
person may look at the hacks and see what I did, but please do not modify
    and redistribute them.

Thanks:

I'd like to thank ID, the creator of DeHackEd, the writers of the Flamethower
patches I downloaded to get an idea of where to start, you for at least
reading this and hopefully testing this patch, and finally, my professors
for not failing me yet.
