HERALDRY.TIL : BY PVM SOFTWARE, VELDHOVEN (NL) 09/09/1990

IN THE BEGINNING....

I only wanted to now what this file "tilemakr.exe" was all about.
So, I turned on my computer, typed just this simple word "tilemakr"
and from that moment on there was no way back....
Just for fun I created just one innocent little tile (which later
would become nr. 21). And of course only to find out if this
program was not to difficult for an unexperienced draughtsman like
me. And very soon I found that it wasn't....

ABOUT THE TILES

The first idea was to create a complete heraldry-tileset of capi-
tals of the world, but very soon I found that :

* arms were to difficult to draw (at least to difficult for me)
* I couldn't find enough models of arms

Therefore I had to change my strategy. The new plan was to create 9
tiles which represented 9 European capitals, 9 tiles which repre-
sented 9 cities of the world and 9 tiles which represented 9 cities
or villages inside my own country The Netherlands. For the other
tiles I did not have any idea at that moment, but I was pretty sure
that somehow I would find a solution.
So, I went to the library and searched for information on heraldry.
I went home with several books and the great adventure started....
Please find below a short description of each tile :

Tiles 31 - 34 : Set of modern styled vignettes (which we call
"logo", but I do not know if this statement is

Tiles 35 - 38 : The crown is a very often used symbol in heraldry.
Each degree of nobility had it's own crown. There
are many different types of crowns.

                35. Crown of Frederick II
                    (German King : 1220 - 1250)
                36. Crown of the Swedish kings
                37. Crown of the Prince of Spain
                38. Crown of the Dutch kings

Tiles 39 - 42 : The cross is a very often used symbol in heraldry.
There are many, many different types of crosses (at
                least 56 different types)

It took some 20 - 25 hours for me to create this complete tileset.
I know that some people would create the same tileset within a few
hours less, but for me it was more a challenge then a race against
the clock. And believe it or not : it also was great fun!!
