                    HOW TO START WITH PRCAR3.ZIP

If you have files from PRCAR2 or earlier versions please delete them first.

Copy all included files to your FS4 directory, for example:
                    COPY PR*.* C:\FLTSIM40 <enter>

((Substitute your FS4 drive and directory for C:\FLTSIM40))

* Notes about Startup Mode - and Heading Position Problems in Caribbean *
*************************************************************************

For some unknown reason, when the default FS4 startup is used and you
then position your aircraft in areas other than Florida, all PR Runways
will have incorrect headings and/or positions. This appears to
be true for any airport placed in the Caribbean Basin. To solve
this we have included a Startup Mode.

** IT IS IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE INSRUCTIONS BELOW **
** TO AVOID HEADING AND POSITIONING PROBLEMS **

Start FS4 as usual, then in the Mode Library (of the Mode Menu), find
and enable the Puerto Rico Startup mode; then press 'E' to save it as
your startup mode.

Quit FS4 in order to have this new startup mode take effect.

Restart your system. The Puerto Rico Startup Mode will position you at
Miami Int'l (You won't see the airport if you don't have SD-7 or Mike
Barrs' Miami scenery file, but don't worry about it.)
Now, load any supplied .mod file with the prefix "PR-" and you are ready
to start your flight.

(Remember to turn on "Auto Load Static Scenery," or manually load the file
called PR-CNTER.SC1 at the outset.)

 *************************************************************************
 * Notes about EZC.MODE from SEE03 and Static Scenery *
 *************************************************************************

Don't blame my program if you find that the altitudes in scenery altered
with EZC.MODE (in this case the PR & VI areas) revert to 0.

Apparently there is a bug in SEE03 which causes this. I am still working
on the area trying to find why this happens...but in the meantime enjoy
the PR & Caribbean Area and don't let the altitudes make you feel bad.

Oh by the way...you can't edit any of the PRCAR3 files, but if you are
interested in doing your own design work just E-Mail me a request and
I'll send you the original files.

                           DETAILED AIRPORTS

Some of the airports found in PRCAR3 files are limited to the runways
only. This is due partly to limited information about details of
particular airports; but mostly to a desire to keep the frame rate on FS
4.0 within reasonable limits. Here is a listing of some of the airports
--AIM-- has detailed for you:

San Juan Int'l - Taxiway, automobile parking, buildings, etc.
                   Completely redesigned.

Isla Grande (My home airport) - You will see hotels on take off, as
well as the San Jose Lagoon.

Dorado - This is a real forest airport.

Borinquen - Ridge on the northwest coast, left turn.

St. Thomas - New terminal, with heavies in the area.

  St. Maarten - Beautiful one.

Guadaloupe - Detail on approach to Runway 11

                     SPECIAL APPROACHES AND TRANSITIONS

Tango Transition:
This is the regular transition when you want to pass San Juan Int'l
Airport and continue to the west of the Island, in order to maintain
the ARSA and the regular inbound jet approach path for landing at SJ
on Runway 8 or Runway 10.

Maintain 2000 feet when you fly west towards the island along the
  northern coast.

When you pick up the Fajardo NDB 480 (really 1480), fly the Tango
Transition by following 65th Infantry Avenue until you see Plaza
Carolina Mall...then turn right and fly directly over San Juan Tower.
After you're over the Tower, turn left to a 284 heading - don't pass
over San Juan Capitol, because it's actually a RESTRICTED area
(at least in real life). Now fly 1/2 mile out to clear the Tango
Transition and return to regular airspace.

Culebra approach (Single Engine Aircraft only):

This is one of the PR area's most difficult approaches.
The approach is between two mountains. Fly on a heading of 106,
After leaving the PR east coast you'll see the island to your right.

Enter the pattern between the two mountains, approaching
from the north on a southerly heading and at or above 600 feet.
Use flaps early, and slow to 70 knots before you get between
  the mountains. Pay attention as you reach the end of the mountains;
the runway is directly to your left...cut the power when you see it.

OTHER DETAILS FOR PUERTO RICO AND VICINITY:

Note: All details are heading out from San Juan Int'l Airport and its
       VOR 114.0

Dos Bocas River - Fly heading of 274 from SJ VOR 114.0...it's at 37 NM
                    DME; look left.

Arecibo Radar - Same as above, except it is at 41 NM DME.

My home, Sky Tower - Fly southwest at 500 feet; follow the long highway
and you'll see three buildings along the highway.

The Yunque Mountain 3524 feet - Fly on heading east 106, then look to
                                  your right (the last mountain)

The Convention Center - Head west along the coast - it's the first red
                          building.

The Capitol - Same as above. It's the blue building to the left of Twin
                Road.

Several Buildings - Same as above

Plaza Las Americas Mall - Head west. Follow the long highway. Mall is on
the intersection between the south/west highways. Do not fly over it,
because that's the regular path for jets inbound to SJ -(at
least in real life). Turn north a few degrees.
((Also you will see the Mall when on approach to SJ Runways 8 & 10))

Plaza Carolina Mall - Fly the Tango Transition (explained before)

Flying from Mayaguez, PR:
On the 264 from MAZ VOR 110.6 you'll find ISLA DE MONA.
This island is an animal refuge and includes details of roads,
         trees, etc.

Flying East of Fajardo, PR:
Close to the island you'll see what we call, in PR,
ISLETA MARINA. It's a group of condominiums located on
a small piece of land in the middle of the sea.

Others? -- As you fly (we can't tell you EVERYTHING!)

                                FINAL NOTES

PR files will be enhanced in the near future, adding new detailed
areas, and the South part of the VIRGIN ISLANDS and other Caribbean
  islands.
