                      Dallas-Fort Worth Scenery
                             4th Edition

                            by Sam Sanders

A word from the creator of DFWAREA.SC1, DFWAREA2.SC1/DY1,
DFWAREA3.SC1/DY1, and DFWAREA4.sc1/dy1.

The Fourth Edition is the latest improvement to the Dallas-Fort
Worth (DFW) area scenery (Released 8-1-1992). You must have the
A&SD installed to use this scenery. The sc1 file was created
first by laying out the major traffic lanes in the Fort Worth and
Dallas metroplex (DFW). DFW International airport was then created,
ignoring the placement of Sublogics poor rendition. Other
airports were added including Alliance, Meacham, Carswell AFB,
and Spinks airports. The 2nd edition included more smaller air
fields and Dallas airports: Love Field, Dallas Naval Air Station,
and Red Bird Airport.

If you have comments concerning the file you would like to
express to me, feel free to contact me. Do not upload a modified
version of this file under the same name, nor submit this file or
modified version of this file to a contest. I will be glad to
take suggestions toward improving the scenery.

ILS frequencies HAVE BEEN CHANGED since the first edition of this
file. Refer to the ILSList.txt file for the new
approach data. I have attempted to improve realism in the
frequencies and runway orientations, although the A&SD program
has some limitations. Some runways were laid out with or without
the Sublogic SD-1.scn file loaded. It was after the creation of
some airports that I learned that zero degrees differs if you
have the Sublogic file loaded or not. It is because of this
finding that I require that you load the Sublogic file to get the
most accurate ILS approach bearings. If you don't load SD-1.scn,
then ILS degrees will appear to be 3 to 8 degrees inaccurate.
You must configure A&SD memory allocations to 61000 and showing
any number of elements up to 40. I use 30.

In the 4th Edition you will find more additions to downtown
Dallas and more detail at Love Field (lake, highways, dynamic
scenery) and at the Naval Air Station (taxiways, water
corrections, hills east of Mountain Creek Lake). A few
structures have been added at Alliance Airport. Highways north
of DFW Airport have been extended. Lake Lewisville and Cedar
Creek Lake has been added. Also, notice that the scenery
boundary has been decreased to about 75 miles (formally 100
miles). This is because I have developed the RACERTX file that
occupies area west, southwest of Fort Worth. The RACERTX scenery
is a make-believe aerial racetrack in the midst of some hills
surrounding a lake. Check it out for some racing action
(RACERTX.ZIP). You do not need SD-1.scn for Fort Worth and
Dallas airports and scenery, although as mentioned above, ILS
accuracy will suffer and SD-1.scn still provides the 117.00 VOR
frequency for DFW Airport. I have used the APTFIX utility to
remove the black runways of DFW, Love Field, RedBird, and Meacham
airports from the SD-1.scn file. This utility is available from
FS 4.0 BBSs or from me upon request.

The file named DFWAREA4.SC1 contains enhancements made available
by the Scenery Enhancement Editor. These include the top of
Reunion Tower, runway crossing patches and Airport lights. No
night color corrections have been made on this file.
 YOU MUST SET MEMORY CONFIGURATION
IN ASD TO MAXIMUM TO USE THIS FILE. Enhancement usually increases
a file's size much more than the original size, not surprising
since the DFWAREA4.SC1 file has over 150 polygons, 161 buildings,
6 major airports, and 5 minor air strips. If you are not familiar
with the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex (DFW), I recommend that you
buy a city map of this area in your local well-stocked bookstore.

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS LOADING THE FILE:
1. Be certain ASD is installed (not just copied) to the Flight
   Simulator directory.
2. Increase ASD memory configuration to maximum (about 61000).
3. Increase base conventional memory to 620K or better. Do not
run TSRs other than a mouse.
4. Turn off Flight Simulator features that take up memory: crash
detect, complexity, ground patterns, logging, etc.

This scenery was created using Microsoft(c) Flight Simulator
4.0b, Microsoft(c) Aircraft & Scenery Designer (A&SD), enhanced with
Millard(c) Sound Graphics and Aircraft upgrade, and the
Millard(c) Scenery Enhancement Editor (SEE 04).

I have received mail and phone calls from some of the users of
the earlier editions of this scenery file. I really appreciate a
word from you as to how you have benefited from this work.

Sit back, and enjoy your flight!
