Escort B-17's to Hoxter Bridge
  "Men.", says your flight commandant
to you. "We have been able to escort
our bombers deeper and deeper into
enemy territory, even after the
Luftwaffe appointed Koeffer as the new
fighter general. Apparently he and his
buddies Eisenlau and Stanfeld are
unable to provide the miracles that the
Luftwaffe needs to survive. I haven't
seen anything new about the German
aircraft!", he chortles.
  "Well", he continues, "today's
mission is a routine strike on German
transportation. However, this area is
known to be heavily defended by the
Luftwaffe, so watch out!"
You are escorting your big friends,
the B-17's, into the vicinity of the
target when you hear your leader speak
into his radio.
"Hey. What's that? Are they some new
breed of Focke-Wulfs?", he asks you.
On the horizon, you see two groups of
planes, in elements of three. They are
flying in an extremely tight formation.
They couldn't be Focke-Wulfs; they are
nearly the size of your Jug! You ask
the lead B-17's radio operator to track
them.
"About... oh God.. 480 miles per
hour!", croaks the radioman.
  These new piston-engined planes are
flying faster then anything you have
seen before, on this 14th day of
January, 1944.
