Strafe New Jets at Their Airfield
You have heard reports about a new
German jet which is being developed.
Although the ballistics and aerodynamics
officers say that it could be
successful, you retain your doubts. Even
if a plane that was really just a wooden
wing could fly fast, what good would
that do if a single rifle shot could
destroy its wooden body? Not to mention
the fact that the glorified wooden board
is nearly as big as a B-17! Instead of
naming it the Flying Wing, Jerry should
have named it the Flying Target! You
imagine a hard-packed wooden wing being
smashed into splinters by one of your
cannon shells.
The P-51's behind you that will bomb
the training field are beginning to
speed up. Now is your chance, on this
very mission, to prove the undeniable
superiority of the Lightning to the
Mustang. You begin to imagine filling
your sights with one of those prototypes
and just roaring loose with your guns,
blasting it out of the sky.
Suddenly a radio message comes in.
Apparently you have been detected by
German radar, and they are sending a
bunch of those tiny jet-powered He162's
to deal with you. You feel a trifle
uneasy. Not much is known about those
graceful little planes except that they
are extremely maneuverable, very swift
(at least faster then any U.S. planes),
and that they are nothing to screw
around with. Oh, well, at least they
aren't Swallows, you think, and roar
towards the training facility.
