You and your wingman are heading
home from an uneventful short escort
mission. A message over the RT from a
B-17 straggler a few miles ahead of
you report bogies closing in on them.

The B-17 is at 6,000 feet heading
west at top speed of 200 MPH.

Catch up to that B-17 and escort it
back to base.
Start with an IMMEDIATE dive toward
the bomber at an 10 to 15 degree
angle, do not lose too much altitude
too fast or else you will not get to
it in time to break up the first
attack.

The B-17 crew is a crack crew but
cannot hold out without your help.
Your wingman is only on his third
combat mission and cannot be
expected to do more than assist you.

Mission created by Tom Philo

  Background:

  Fighters returning to England would
join up with straggling bombers to
protect them, or be protected by them,
as a manner of routine in enemy
airspace. The Germans were always on
the lookout for lone bombers and were
quick to pounce on them once located.
