Welcome to the "Doomsday" CD.
                                              
The ultimate in addon levels for the DOOM
family, Heretic, Descent and dark forces.

Use the cursor keys & ENTER to navigate the
menu lists, or you can use a mouse. Example
press ENTER on Doom1 wads or click mouse,
this brings up a list of files you can play.
To play a file, again just press ENTER or 
click the mouse over a file, a confirmation 
screen will appear

Confirmation Screen
-------------------

When playing Doom/Hereitc addon levels, before
the level is entered you are able to choose
certain options for the level. You can choose
your Skill Level, No Monsters, Fast or whether
to play a single level from CD this saves hard
disc space. When using random link play you 
can also set deathmatch status, note that
with deathmatch set, the two players will only
appear in different spots if the random wad
supports deathmatch positions, if not then you
should appear next to each other. You can also
set the comport of the modem you are using.

The descent confirmation screen is different
in that you can pick the screen resolution the
game runs in, you need v1.4 or higher for this

Dark forces confirmation screen simply offers
a yes / no ??

You can only select the addon levels for the
games that you entered a path for. If you
install a registered version of any of the
above games after you run Doomsday. You will
have to use the 'Paths' icon, to enter the
path of the new game.

When you choose to play an addon level, the
menu will copy it from your CD into your
game directory, unless you have choosen to 
play it from CD, this option saves HD space,
but runs slower. When the games exits you 
can choose to leave the addon level on your
hard disc or delete it. This only applies 
to single and multi level play, but not 
Random / Link play.


Random local play
-----------------
Chooses 9 levels, copies them into your Doom/
Heretic directory, and then boots the game.
Note when playing Doom1 / Heretic you will
only get the nineth / secret level if any of
the previous eight has a link to the nineth.
When playing Doom 2 you will get 9 levels back
to back, levels 10+ will be the standard ones.

Random / Telephone WAD play
---------------------------
Available for Doom 1, Doom 2 and Heretic

This option selects 6 levels for you and 
copies them into your Doom/Heretic directory
then boots the game.
Note when playing Doom1 / Heretic you will
only get the nineth / secret level if any of
the previous eight has a link to the nineth.
When playing Doom 2 you will get 6 levels back
to back, levels 7+ will be the standard ones.

In order to use this function, both party's
need the following,

1 copy of the Doomsday CD

1 copy of either Doom 1 or 2 v1.666 Registered
  or Heretic Registered.

1 modem, compatiable with the menu system,
  Doom / Heretic Setup, Hayes compatible will
  work ok. 


This option chooses 6 levels at random, 1 
user clicks on the 'Wait for call' icon, 
refered to as the 'listener' from now on, 
the listener selects the com port their 
modem is on, then clicks on the 'Answer' 
icon, this will reset the modem and wait 
for a call. This process can be aborted 
by pressing ALT-Q.


The other player

Chooses which game to play, clicks the 'LINK'
icon, then enters the phone number of the
listener, or uses the directory,

Telephone Directory
-------------------
This function saves/recalls upto 10 phone
numbers. double clicking the 'X' in the
centre of each name/phone, will copy that
phone number into the comms windows. To
edit any entry, just click into that box,
and type, when finished click update to save.
The data is saved with your status string in
the C:\MMMDOOM directory.

The program will then dial the
listener, send all the infomation needed, 
note this only transfers the names of the 
wads, so the phone call should only last 
about 30 secs.
When this has finished, DoomsDay will
disconnect the phone, copy the random wads
into your Doom / Heretic directory, switch to
the directory, leave the menu system. Simply
enter 'GO' at the prompt, this will boot your
game. Again whoever chose which game you
play, will make the call, the listener 
will listen.

When you exit your game, the menu will remove
all addon levels from your hard disc, and
return to the intro screen. If the other
player leaves the game, you will get a message
to that effect, but carry on playing by your
self.

In order to use random telephone play with
Doom 1, you will need version 1.666, if you
are using v1.2 then you can use the 'Update'
icon to bring your version upto 1.666, simply
click on the icon, follow the on screen
instructions. The menu system will do all the
work for you.

Note
----
After playing random telephone play, you may
need to reset your computer by powering off
and on.
