      **** DESCRIPTION AND USE OF BUTTONS ON OPTIONS MENU *******
      ************************************************************

     SKILL LEVEL - Select the skill level of the game to play at.

     MONSTERS - Turns the monsters on/off and turns respawn on and off.

     PLAYERS - Select the number of players for network mode 1-4.

     CONNECT - Displays the current phone number to be dialed

     NETWORK - select the type of play:

               None          - Normal play you and the computer
               IPX Network   - Play on Novell type networks
               Wait for Call - Wait for another modem player to call                      
               Dial SIngle   - Call another modem player
               Dwango        - Use ISV's DWANGO game server's
               Dwango/cfg    - Configure DWANGO software
               Dwango/srv    - Change DWANGO game server's phone #


     PLAY MODE - Cooperate for deathmatch play or use DEATHMATCH and
                 kill each other.

     MODEM PORT - Select the modem port for your modem 1,2,3 or 4

     **** To setup you modem the first time you may have to use 
          the DOOM or HERETIC setup program.....

      ************************************************************
      ********* INSTRUCTIONS FOR PLAYING ON NETWORKS *************
      ************************************************************
      
      
        1. Your network must use IPX data transfer to work with
           the DOOM games and DOOM interfaces.

        2. Select how many players your game will have by clicking 
           on any of 2,3 or 4 players.

        3. Click on the "IPX NETWORK" button.

        4. All players must select the same LEVEL or WAD file from
           the "TO THE LEVELS" menu or the game will ****NOT PLAY****.
      
        5. Select "PLAY COOPERATIVELY" if you want to play with
           someone else and just kill monsters.  Select "DEATHMATCH"
           if you want to play between your friends or foes.

        6. Press play and wait for the other players to get ready 
           then press "        ".

      
      ************************************************************
      ********** Instructions for ONE on ONE  MODEM PLAY *********
      ************************************************************

        1. Select "OPTIONS" from the main menu and then press
           the left mouse button.

        2. Select the proper communication port which your modem is
           this will be COM 2 on most computers.

        3. If you are going to wait for some one to call select
           "WAIT FOR CALL" then click on "PLAY" from the 
           "NETWORK" button.

        4. To call a number use this help file to find a player
           you may want to play or type in the number of a friend. 

           ENTER A NEW PHONE NUMBER          

           To enter or change a Phone number go to the "UTILITES" menu. 
           Then press the the "PHONE LIST" button.  
          
           To ENTER a NEW number click on "INSERT" then type the number 
           in, then press the Enter key.

           EDIT AN EXSISTING PHONE NUMBER      

           To EDIT an exsisting number position the cursor over that number
           and click on "EDIT NUMBER" then edit the number press Enter when
           done.           

           REMOVE A PHONE NUMBER
          
           To DELETE an exsisting number position the cursor ovoer that number
           and click on "REMOVE" then edit the number press Enter when
           done.           

        5. Refer to the end of this help file for the INTERNATIONAL
           PHONE DIRECTORY of DOOM players.
        
    
      TO PLAY A GAME

        6. All players must select the same LEVEL or WAD file from
           the "MAXIMUM LEVELS" menu or the game will ****NOT PLAY****.
      
        7. Set the phone number from the "UTILITES" menu by clicking
           on "PHONE LIST" then click on the number. Return to the "OPTIONS"
           menu.

        8. Click on the "OPTIONS" menu then if you want to play
           with someone else and just kill monsters, select "Cooperate"
           form the "PLAY MODE" button.  If you want to kill each other
           select "DEATHMATCH" with the "PLAY MODE" button.
          

        9.  Now press the "NETWORK" button to select "WAIT FOR A CALL"
            or "DIAL" then press play.

    
    MODEM SETUP

       10. If your MODEM does not work you must set it up in the 
           DOOM "setup" program.  

       11. Type in SETUP then the DOOM setup program will appear.

       12. Use the arrow keys to select "Run Network/Modem/Serial Game".

       13. Press the Enter key and then select "Choose your modem".   

       14. If you have a "CLONE" type modem select "Identity Internal"
           and it will probably work.

      ****************** PLAYING DOOM ON DWANGO ******************
      ************************************************************

     FIRST TIME SETUP 

     CONFIGURE MODEM 

        1. Click on MAXIMUM OPTIONS. Then click on the "NETWORK"
             button untill it displays "Dwango/Cfg".

        2. Now press the Play button to configure Dwango for your
             computer.

   SETUP OR CHANGE the Phone number 
        
        1. Click on MAXIMUM OPTIONS. Then click on the "NETWORK"
             button untill it displays "Dwango/Svr".

        2. Now press the Play button to configure Dwango for your
             computer. 
      
   PLAY THE GAME

        1. Click on MAXIMUM OPTIONS. Then click on the "NETWORK"
             button untill it displays "Dwango/Svr".

        2. Now press the Play button to configure Dwango for your
             computer.
