How To Contact Us (F.3) .................... Final Words =====================SECTION THE FIRST- ABOUT MAGI DOOM====================== (1.1) Distraught graphic editors... Right now, I am sitting here writing this info-thingy and am starting sort of excited. For the past many months, David and I have been trying to insert new sprites into a PWAD. Much to our distraughtness (is that a word?) we later realized that for new sprites to be inserted into a PWAD, they ALL must be changed... "oh well, maybe the next totally awesome 3d editable game!" ... yeah, right... in a million years. So, wht did we actually do about the situation??? We decided to change all the freakin' sprites, and if that still didn't work, we would just save them into the main DOOM file and distribute that. The only problem is that many people could never have enough hard drive space for 2 DOOM.WADs with different names, could they??? Well, folks, if you don't have 1.2 megs of HD space left, we feel for you, because Magi-DOOM is gonna be awesome. Not as awesome as SWDOOM sounds, but it just might be cool. (1.2) The Idea Well, so what... we load your hard drive with an extra meg of new graphics... what's the big deal? "I can make my own graphics!" Well, first, it is always better to let someone else do the job for you as long as they are willing, and secondly, like SWDOOM, this is not just some simple graphic change, but an entirely new DOOM environment. "What environment is that??" you may ask... the vast realm of Fantasy and Adventure. Probably one of the greatest genres ever to grasp the world in its hands and never let go... Enough with the literary crap... David had been bugging me for the LONGEST about how a fantasy DOOM-style game would be... well, after DEU 5.21, I made a few Fantasy-type levels, but something just wasn't right... Knights and Wizards didn't have Chainsaws and Big F@#kin' Guns (BFG :) ). All they had were swords and magic... so what did we decide to do??? Utilizing Corel Photo Paint and DmGraph and a lot of other doo-thingys that we will credit to in the release docs, we decided to change virtually every graphic into a fantasy environment. Remember that chainsaw??? Nah... swords are better... =======SECTION THE SECOND- WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS GUY TALKIN' ABOUT???========== (2.1) Quick Overview So, what exactly IS this guy talking about? An awesome DOOM replacement, which is gonna cost David and I a LOT of free time, sodas, chips, and sleep. Not good... but, even if we finish it as zombies whose heads are rotting off in another few months, then at least we accomplished something in our miserable lives... :) But anyway, on to the overview... As in SWDOOM, we plan on having 27 new levels... yes, that does mean 3 new episodes, along with all new menu selections and blah blah blah... You will see it soon enough! Back! Calm down! We know that you are excited, but please keep your pants on... (just kidding! ;) ) Basically, you will be a wizard on a quest to find the Ultimate Spell... our replacement for the Big F@#kin' Gun... anyway, when you find it, you must run a gauntlet of evil Minotaurs (duh... Barons turned rotten Brownish color) to reach the ultimate evil... Chaos, Dark Lord of Gehenisia. (duh... Spider Demon... ) All of the places are gonna be based on my upcoming fantasy novel: DARKSEARER... check it out... but, unfortunately, the book's main character is a really messed up young adult with awesome abilities... of which we could not incorporate into MAGI DOOM, so, the main character of MAGI DOOM is going to be the Grand Lansing... yeah, it is Lane's father, and yes, Lansing never fought Chaos but once, and... wait.. why spoil the book for those who haven't read it! ANYWAY... the levels will be based on Lansing's travels from the above- ground (E1) to Gehenisia (E3). Don't ask about E2... we don't know... yet! ==========SECTION THE THIRD- WHEN WILL MAGI DOOM BE RELEASED???=============== (3.1) Expected Date Please, unless you want us to go crazy and shoot ourselves, NEVER ask us... "How much longer???" since all this does is delay us and make us feel like parents on a trip being asked "Are we there yet???" fifty-thousand times. We will DEFINANTLY let you know when it is nearing completion... POSSIBLY, note the caps, it may be ready for '95, but that is a BIG POSSIBLY! :) (3.2) What Still Has To Be Done HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! That is very funny... If you must know, David is drawing up level plans as I write... only, there is a slight problem... we haven't changed much other than the weeny little status bar ammo numbers... so, in reference to section 3.1, NEVER ask how much longer, cause you might get a dirty letter in the e-mail box... ;) ======SECTION THE FOURTH- WHO'S MAKING MAGI DOOM... I WANNA KNOW!!!============ (4.1) MAGI DOOM Staff List Here's the official list of everyone who's working on MAGI DOOM: Ben Brooks: Organizer, BIG HD, graphics, sounds, levels, music, nervous breakdowns. David Hancock: Graphics, (Aardvian) music, level concepts, faster computer (for now! :) ). So, as you see, we have a LOT of work between us, and it's kinda fun... we get to set deadlines and impose penalties for overshooting them! Cool... anyway... (4.2) Help Wanted (Sort of...) If you would REALLY like to help us out on MAGI DOOM by giving us ideas, then you have until August 31, the deadline for ideas... later, I will give you my E-Mail address, and our America Online Names.... Write in those ideas! =============SECTION THE FIFTH- WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MAGI DOOM================= (5.1) Overview This section summarizes everything that will be changed from the original game DOOM in MAGI DOOM. As we come up with new ideas or use yours, we will let you know right here... your name and all! Cool... :> (5.2) New Graphics! Well, utilizing Corel Photo Paint, we plan to redo virtually EVERY graphic, that includes sprites and such. Corep PP is an awesome GIF editor, and, with DmGraph to extract the graphics, we will use it to alter and shade our graphics... problem??? LOTS OF WORK!!! hmm... (5.3) New Sprites! This is a tentative list of all the enemies you'll encounter in MAGI DOOM, and which enemies they might replace: Enemy: Replaces: Dregs... just wait! Former Human Skeletal Archers Sergeant Crazed Wizard Imp Ogers Demon Will o' Wisp Lost Soul Beholders Cacodemon Minotaur Lords Baron of Hell Red Dragon Cyberdemon Chaos Spiderdemon Now, with a story and ONE main character, what about multi-player??? OH YES, is it EVER gonna be Multi-player! Each character is simply a wizard of different color robes... here... it is REALLY simple! Player: Replaces: Green Robed old fogey Green Space Marine Wow... if you can't figure the rest out, you are REALLY slow and probably not smart emough to be reading this! (5.4) New Sounds! MAGI DOOM will, as SWDOOM, contain ALL new sounds, each taken from various .wav files and those that we make ourselves... It's gonna be cool! (5.5) New Music! Yes, they made me do it... I am going out to buy me a MIDI synth some- time soon... thus, I can use my 10 yr, award-winning piano abilities to write entirely new music for EACH level... not easy! (5.6) New Textures! Yes, also as in SWDOOM, all textures will be fitting of a Fantasy setting... that means no more Computer junk and no more techno-junkie stuff... just good-ole Castle walls, battlements, and... yes... Canons! (5.7) 3 New Episodes! (27 Levels!) Yes, every level in DOOM will be changed for MAGI DOOM. here is a rough outline of what goes where... (names will change!) Episode 1: Dragonia by Night 1= Dungeon 2= City Swarm! 3= Forest 4= Shrine of Law 5= Shrine of Neutrality 6= Shrine of Chaos 7= Cavern Depths 8= Gates of Night *9* Sea Shrine Episode 2: Dragonia by Day 1= Castle 2= Tower 3= Galleon 4= Jungle Island 5= Tower of Dragons 6= Castlebury Island 7= Castlebury 8= Undead Rampage *9* Shipwreck! Episode 3: Gehenisia 1= River/Bridges 2= Forest Revisited 3= Chaos Wall 4= Badlands 5= Gate 6= Gehenisia 7= Ocean of Hell 8= Gate of the World *9* Gauntlet (5.8) New Weapons! All the weapons in DOOM will also be changed in MAGI DOOM to weapons from a fantasy setting. The planned weapons and what they replace are: Weapon: Replaces: Dagger (Wolf3d) Fist Sword Chainsaw Slingshot Pistol Crossbow Shotgun Rock Lobber Chaingun Flame Scroll Rocket Launcher Lightning Scroll Plasma Rifle Ultimate Spell BFG-9000 (5.9) New Story! Well, in contrast to the creators of SWDOOM, the story of DOOM was awesome! I loved the idea of blindly leaping into Hell itself and being engulfed by terror and gore... ;) But, we needed a new story... so, we used mine, _Darksearer_. Only here, in MAGI DOOM, you are NOT Lane Lansing, but his father, The Grand Lansing, roaming the world in search of the Ultimate Spell. (see prologue of _Lansing_ in _Darksearer_) And, of course, we just had to include all of the placed Lane journeyed, because his father was following him... well, maybe he didn't go into Gehenisia (at least in _Darksearer_ ;) ), but we wanted him to in MAGI DOOM, just for the fun of attacking Chaos! Pretty nifty, eh? Oh yeah... we also included Darksearer, the Sword of Light, in the game.(see 5.8 : sword) (5.10) Best Of All - It's FREE! As the SWDOOM group said, they did this for their own enjoyment... so are we. "What does this mean???" Like I said, cut the questions... if you can't figure out that this means we are releasing MAGI DOOM for free nation-wide, then you should get some sleep now... |0 ========SECTION THE SIXTH- WHAT DO I NEED TO PLAY MAGI DOOM???============== (6.1) Minimum Requirements "First of all, you'll of course need DOOM." MAGI DOOM "requires the registered version of DOOM, since it replaces nearly everything, including registered-only things, so the installation won't work properly on the shareware version. If you don't have the registered version, definitely call 1-800-IDGAMES now and order. It's well worth it. As for machine requirements, id says you'll need a 386 with at least 4 megs of RAM and a VGA monitor. If you want to play DeathMatch or Cooperative mode (yes, Star Wars DOOM with support multi-player games!) you'll need an IPX network for 2/3/4 players, and a 9600 bps or better modem for two-player modem-to-modem games." [all in quotes from SWDOOM info packet... they said exactly what i wanted!] (6.2) Recommended "The most obvious thing is a sound card. A Sound Blaster Pro or 100% compatible is the best for DOOM. A Gravis UltraSound is also very good. Not only will the sounds be a lot better, but DOOM also has some cool sound techniques and on a stereo sound card you can tell where the enemies are thanks to the nice panning effects. Even better, if you've got a GUS, DOOM has 3D sound support, so not only will you be able to tell where the enemies are, you'll literally hear them coming behind you! "Another thing is memory (RAM). DOOM doesn't care what kind of memory it is, so just go for total RAM. At least 8 megs is good, but 12 or 16 would be the best. "If you don't have access to a network and/or your modem is less than 9600, you can get a cheap null-modem cable from Radio Shack and hook up two computers to play a two-player game. Star Wars DOOM will be best for one-player games, but multiplayer will definitely be supported, so take advantage of it!" [for quote info, see above section] ================SETION THE FINAL- CLOSING... finally...======================= (F.1) Copyright Info Well, the only copyrighted thing we need to mention that does NOT belong to me is id Software's DOOM, the greatest game ever! Whoah... BTW, all rights to DARKSEARER and LANSING and all material belonging therein is mine, all MINE!!! That means that if you use it in any form or fashion that I do not like or that just totally blows the meaning of the story, then I could get really mad and explode. (F.2) How To Contact Us Well, let's say that you really needed to get in touch with us for some reason or another... you might want to know how. Just write David on AOL. His name is "Aardvian". Or, E-mail me via Internet at BenB545524@aol.com. We just might like your ideas! (F.3) Final Words You will DEFINANTLY see revisions, screen shots, and programmer lists as we develop more and more. P.S. We have, as of July 17, added a few screen shots. There is a file called SHOT.TXT that tells about them. Remember, these are VERY early shots! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- TU WES MORG!!! {it makes more sense after reading the book! --------------------------------------------------------------------------
