DEATHDAY COLLECTION TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE ========================================= Q: When I try to load a wad file in the menu, it takes me back to the DOS prompt or the C:\dday directory. A: There is a conflict with your Extended Memory Manager (EMM386, QEMM etc) and DOOM or DOOM2. You need to reboot your system without loading EMM386. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to reboot your system and when it says "Starting MS-DOS", hit the F8 KEY. Answer "Y" to every line except the one containing your "Extended Memory Manager (eg "...EMM386.."), for which you should answer "N". Now try running the game. Q: On loading, I get an "Insufficient Memory" error message. A: It appears that you do not have enough conventional memory. Follow the above step, and answer "N" to any device drivers or TSR's not required to run DOOM. Q: The Deathday menu refuses to load. A: Do you have a registered version of DOOM or DOOM2 ? The menu will not run if you only have a shareware version of the game. Q: The selected wad file in the menu loads fine, but I do not notice anything different in the game. A: Some wad files are intended for different levels or episodes. Read the mission briefing file by hitting the space bar when selecting a wad in the menu. Q: How do I get the Editors to work in the menu ? A: Follow this example to load a particular edited wad for Doom2 : [We have assumed that you have installed the menu in C:\DDAY and that you have DOOM2 in the C:\DOOM2 directory. Make the corresponding changes if different]. -Select the file named DEU2.EXE in the EDITORS option and press enter to install it -Proceed back to the menu and exit -At the DDAY dir, go into the DM2E subdirectory by typing "CD DM2E" -Type "DEU2 -W C:\DOOM2\DOOM2.WAD -The program should load up and display it's own prompt: type "E 1" -This will load the first level of the ORIGINAL DOOM2 wad level -The right button mouse is used to move an object, the middle button changes the object's attributes (ie. enemy or weapon, etc) and the left button is used to select a menu -When finished modifying the level, go to the FILE menu and select "SAVE AS MAPx" -Save it under the name "MYWAD.WAD" for example -Go back to the FILE menu and QUIT the program -Hit enter, or select a level number and hit enter -Type "Q" to quit from the command line prompt -You should now be at the C:\DDAY\DM2E directory -You need to copy the "MYWAD.WAD" file to your C:\DOOM2 directory: Type "COPY MYWAD.WAD C:\DOOM2" (enter) -Type "CD\" (enter) -Type "CD DOOM2" (enter) -To load the edited wad file, type: "DOOM2 -FILE MYWAD.WAD" (enter) -If the edited wad file has been sucessfully loaded, it should say "adding mywad.wad" when initialising... and off it goes!! GENERAL PROBLEMS ================ Q: When running the Microforum catalog, I do not see any videos in the demos. A: You have not installed the Video For Windows driver. To install, double-click on the "Video For Windows" icon in the "Microforum's Catalog" group. Q: I have installed Video For Windows, and I still do not see any videos. A: Go to FILE MANAGER >> FILE >> SEARCH. In the "Search For:" field, type "msvideo.dll" and in the "Start From:" field, type "c:\windows" and hit OK. Any files that show up in the search results window should be deleted (go to FILE >> DELETE). Now try re-installing Video For Windows and run the catalog as usual.
