All the maps I have seen so far on Doom as of this writing, have been
screen grabs for episode 1, and are very difficult read. So I first
endeavered to screen grab maps for episodes 2 and 3, cleaned them all
up and added my own codes for different items like risers, switches,
secret doors, etc.; as well as bullits, shells, etc. for Episode 1. I used
Corel Draw 3's "Photo-Paint" in 256 color mode, and through a process of
elimination, using a Citizen GSX-140plus color dot-matrix printer, I came
up with color-coded maps for all three episodes.

My episode 1 maps such as E1M1.BMP includes a matching map E1M1CC.BMP
with item codes like bullits, keys, rad suits, etc. and their location.
The CC stands for Color Code.

I've included my master key called MSTRCODR.BMP, as well as a text
on the color scheme called DMCOLOR.TXT, if you want to try to put in your
own items or customize your own maps. Also included is CLCODE1.BMP, codes
for all items that you could come across in DOOM;( I combined both med-kits
and stim-packs as one symbol - a red cross - due to that they only differ
from the amount of health points you get) ; and CLCODE2.BMP which is
used for my standard maps, that don't include special items like bullits,
 keys, med-kits.

     Suggestions:

-- Because of the variance in print and color quality among color printers,
you may want to print one up first on your own printer, then compare
it with the screen image. What you see on the screen, is not what you
get on the printed page, especially in shading, texture, and color
hue and saturation. You may have to experiment with it until you get
something that is satisfactory to you.

-- If using a b/w printer, you may want to use a paint program to erase
such things as steps or colored items if they seem to confuse you
     in b/w mode.

-- Sometimes my printer would glitch somewhere during the printing process.
If this happens to you, it may not mean that the map is bad.
Check your ribbon to see if you have a fold-over or that it is loose.
Sometimes it could be an electronic glitch between computer and printer.
On an average for me, it was a one in ten ratio.
If it continues at the same place, it could be a corrupt map. However,
I have checked and printed each and every map at least three times with
no problems with the maps themselves.

-- Look for DMMPCC2.ZIP and DMMPCC3.zip - my color coded maps for DOOM's
     Episodes 2 and 3, respectfully.
Also, look for in the near future, my color coded maps for the DOOM
Wad Add-ons, like Starwars, Arena, etc.
