KICKASS.WAD -- Bring kick ass second-rate SciFi/Action/Horror sounds to DOOM
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning: This wad is voluntarily rated R, so you kids are forewarned and
you parents can't blame only me for your kids getting this.
Anyway, if they have their own computer and can find this
file, then you don't seem to have much control anyway. So
don't expect me to take the blame which you deserve.
Description:
I took only the best, most violent, and/or hilarious lines from
my stocked collection of second-rate, lame, and otherwise lousy but
classic movies to use in my sound wad for DOOM. It was a hard choice
to limit all the movies to only 61 DOOM sound effects, but I'm
satisfied with the outcome. I added 57 new sounds (I didn't bother
with the small ones, Bosses walking, Stairs rising, Lift stopping) and
they will make DOOM come alive to your ears. Not to be modest, but
these sounds are not only funny, but they all will kick your ass, and
most are very violent to stir you on in DOOM. Some of the movies
included: PHANTASM I and II, TREMORS, SPLIT SECOND, HEATHERS, EVIL
DEAD II (I don't have the others on tape), NEW JACK CITY, etc. You
have to check out some of the sounds, they really improve on DOOM's
originals, like the pistol/chaingun transformed into the I COME IN
PEACE spacegun, and the shotgun replacement with the PHANTASM II
four-barreled Reggie-special. Check out the kickass.lst list if you're
still not sure about downloading all of it (sorry about the giant
size, but these sound effects don't come cheap).

Installing:
Download the two files, kickass1.zip and kickass2.zip. Since
I couldn't zip up the whole wad file into a 1.44 MB size, I decided
to just zip up all the .wav files with a batch file for creating
KICKASS.WAD. Included are: kickass.txt, all the .wav files,
kickass.bat, and dmaud.exe (in case you don't already have it).
Just unzip the two .zip files into a directory, and run "kickass".
(Do what you want with the .wav files after this step to save space)
The batch file will place all the .wav files into kickass.wad and
you're ready to go. Just type "doom -file kickass.wad" with any
of your favorite other arguments, and listen away. Happy DOOMing!

Background:
Once I downloaded the shareware version of DOOM, I knew that this
was the game that I could finally obsess over. Other games were good,
Street Fighter II and so on, but DOOM was the best. Me and my roomie
played for endless hours with the lights off and the stereo up. There
could be no better game, well not for a couple of years anyway. Then I
learned about the wad editing, levels, graphics, sound, and that was my
next task. We almost got worried when we finished all the episodes.
The sounds in DOOM are ok, but they left a lot to be desired. I
have to admit that there was a good death noise for the Imps, but other-
wise they were quite boring. So we set out on a task to import sounds
from our favorite second-rate movies in our collection into DOOM. And not
just any sounds, but the best the movies had to offer as well as those
that were appropriate for the situations in DOOM. No stupid funny quotes
that have nothing to do with the sounds they represent. The simpsons wad
was funny, but not violent enough. The evildead one was ok, but there
weren't enough applicable sounds. And I didn't want to do another theme
sound wad (or those lame ones that aren't even funny, stern & sex, whatever).
I racked my brain, and my video tape collection, to come up with this
collage of kick ass sounds for DOOM. It brings DOOM and my soundcard up
to a new level in listening enjoyment as well as the violent sounds
getting me even more pumped up when nailing an Imp with the shotgun or
mauling an entire room with the chaingun. Trust me on this one, I haven't
heard any better sounds, and I've tried most everything at infant2.

although be warned, I will respond.

Special Thanks:
To all those wonderful Producers and Directors that come out with
these movies even though they know that it will most likely
be the end of their career.
And to ID for their masterpiece, DOOM.
And to whoever the hell else wants some thanks.

Check it out. Should be at infant2.sphs.indiana.edu as you read this. Try
the /pub/doom/incoming or /pub/doom/sounds directories for kickass1.zip and
kickass2.zip. You won't be dissapointed (unless you're a loser, of course).
