The New Guy

It's the 1st day of his senior year in high school, and Dizzy Harrison (DJ Qualls) is all pumped up and ready to go. Although his previous years have been a nightmare with the local bullies and the joke of the school; things would be better this year, right? Wrong. On his first day back, not only does he embarrass himself to the hottest girl in school, but an elderly faculty member breaks his erected penis in front of the student body. Thinking that his luck and actions may result from possibly Tourette syndrome, the school nurse gives Dizzy some medications to take. While on the medications, Dizzy ends up in jail and meets the man who will soon change his life.

Luther, played by Eddie Griffith, listens to Dizzy's problems and decides to help him out. Being a former play toy to bullies in prison, Luther tells Dizzy to attend a new school with an entirely new image. With the help of his friends, played by Zooey Deschanel, Parry Shen, and Jerod Mixon, Dizzy manages to pull of his new identity as the toughest kid in school.

I have to admit, when I first saw previews for this movie I wasn't too thrilled to see it. After watching it in its entirety, I have to scold myself for being too judgmental. The New Guy is a pretty funny comedy. The jokes aren't really too raunchy and just right for kids 17 and under. There are even several cameos by top names including David Hasselhoff, Tony Hawk, Kool Moe Dee, Vanilla Ice, Tommy Lee, Gene Simmons, and Lyle Lovett. The New Guy is the perfect movie to remind us all that even the weak and nerdy have feelings too.
