Rat Race When I first saw the previews
for this movie, I had to see it. Besides having an all star cast
and being a remake of, "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World,"
Rat Race is the first movie that includes two African American
Academy Award winners (wow that's a lot of A's).
It all starts off with a pull of a slot machine. 8 lucky people
are chosen to be in a race for two million dollars. At first,
they all seem really skeptical about the contest. I mean, wouldn't
you be too if some guy told you that a million dollars is waiting
in a locker at postal office only 3 hours away and gave you the
key? The temptation gets to the best of our players and thus begins
the race.
One thing I liked about this movie is the determination that
the contestants posses. They go through a Nazi Museum, survive
the blazing desert, destroy an airport's radar system, fall off
a cliff, pursuit the skies in a hot air balloon, ride along in
an ambulance, hijack a test vehicle, and even drive a bus load
of Lucy impersonators in order to get to New Mexico. Whew!!!
I won't give away the details of this movie, other than the jokes
are very well written and extremely funny. I definitely recommend
this movie as a choice for family night. There is one scene where
Rowan Atkinson (Bean) loses a human heart to a dog. Although I
imagine that there would be a lot more blood in real life, the
dog plays with the rubber heart and it the organ ends on an electric
chord. Thank heavens that jolt of electricity brings the gentle
heart back to life. This movie also features cameos by Kathy Bates,
Dean Cain, Wayne Knight, and Paul Rodriguez. Some jokes may not
be suitable for small children, but overall, this movie is a winner
in every way.
