Planet Of The Apes

The year is 2029, Mark Wahlberg plays Captain Leo Davidson, a pilot that trains apes for flight simulation aboard a space station. One day when a mission goes wrong, Leo chases after his ape only to be sent through a worm hole of time and into the future. After crash landing on a strange planet, Leo discovers that something is terrible wrong. Apes have apparently evolved into a humanoid species and humans are the caged animals. Seeing that humans aren't that different from apes, Ari (Helena Bonham Carter) uses the power of her father the senator to do what is right and to educate everyone that cruelty to humans is an abomination. The ironic part is that her former love, Thade (Tim Roth) is now with the army and will stop at nothing to eliminate the human species and anyone who stands in his way.

This is a remake of the 1972 classic staring Charleston Heston and Linda Harrison. This updated version features incredible special effects that give more realism to the apes, a background setting from the deepest regions of a jungle to the deserted wastelands, and an incredible war between the apes and the humans. Compared to the original classic, the actors in this movie have more ape-like qualities. Whether it's their grunts, the way they sniff each other, or even the way they walk, the acting in this movie is more believable than the acting in the classic. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed the classic version. The like the idea of watching different movies based on the story. The viewer gets to see how the director, actors, and writers thought of the subject during their time period.

When all the movie elements are brought together, the audience gets a spectacular movie with incredible effects. Planet of the Apes does a decent job in incorporating all its elements together. Of course being a Tim Burton film, I wouldn't expect anything less. Burton gives a darker view point this Sci-fi flick about a planet inhabited by a race of humanoid apes. Makes you think if that is the next stage of animal evolution or the last chapter of the human species.
