What started off as a simple birthday kidnapping, soon turned into an accidental murder. A group of girls thought a staged prank would surprise their friend Liz on her birthday. After shoving a jawbreaker in her mouth to silence her screams, they tie her up and lock her inside the trunk of a car. What they didn't expect to find was Liz's dead body when they opened up the trunk to yell, "surprise." They cover up the murder by blaming an innocent man and go to school like nothing happened. Now the real fun begins.
Jawbreaker is a dark teen comedy that proves just how far a group
of popular girls would go to cover up a murder. The talents of
Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz, Tatyana Ali, P.J. Soles, William
Katt, and Pam Grier lend their hand in this fun little romp. I
personally like how Rose McGowan plays the ultimate teenage bitch
of a villain. Her role was an excellent way to show off how sneaky
and cunning she could be. I really enjoyed the scene (not in a
sexual, but comical way) where she makes some guy suck on a Popsicle
while she gives him oral sex.
Overall, this movie isn't half as bad as it sounds. True, that
most of the action comes from when the girls give each other dirty
looks. One thing to remember is that this is a teen movie. The
audience is mainly teenage girls from 11 to 17 years old. That's
why it is important to understand why popularity, good looks,
reputation, and becoming prom queen are important elements to
a bunch of divas-in-training. Wait for this one to come on TV
instead of renting it. If you can't understand, then shove a jawbreaker
in your mouth and have a nice day.
