Coyote Ugly

How far would some people go in order to achieve their dreams? When Violet was a young girl, her late mother's dream was to write music. Now that she's leaving Jersey for New York, Violet's goal is to write her own music. There is one problem though, although Violet can write music, she doesn't like to sing. Violet always had a fear of singing in the public; therefore being a song writer who can't sing isn't exactly a great combination. In the meantime, she finds a job at a local bar called Coyote Ugly. This isn't any ordinary bar though. The drink selection is limited, girls dance on the bar top, and attitude is everything. Given the Coyote nickname, Jersey, Violet soon learns how to deal with the cold harshness of making it in the entertainment business, keeping her cool in bar fights, and how to fall in love with a tall dark stranger.

This was one of the few movies that I couldn't wait to get on DVD. Piper Perabo gives an outstanding performance of the small town girl from Jersey that makes her dreams come true in the big city. The cast includes John Goodman as Violet's father, Adam Garcia, Maria Bello, Tyra Banks, Izabella Miko, and Bridget Moynahan. Another intriguing fact about this movie is the song that Violet writes. It's called, "Can't Fight the Moonlight," and is later performed by LeAnn Rimes at the end of the movie. Interesting though is that LeAnn Rimes really does sing the song; in fact, she re-releases her hit song as a dance version several years later.

One thing that I liked about this movie was the moral of the story: no matter how hard the odds against you are, it's possible to make your dreams come true. Violet showed true guts and determination, even though her music was rejected numerous times. It was easy to feel for Violet when she was at her highest moment or her deepest low. Coyote Ugly is not a chick flick and can easily be enjoyed by either gender. Remember, life isn't about struggle or even about having a good time. Life is about achieving our secret desires and our personal dreams. Accomplishing our legacy will then bring happiness and fortune. It did for Violet.
