OLD BUSINESS:
A. Events
- Jim Hain has offered a parade flag (US) for our future use.
- 2009 Irish Festival Ed has met with Kevin Townsel regarding accommodations. We have been promised space in the Woodcarver’s Building. There will be more signs this year, so people will have less difficulty finding activities and events. This year’s theme is ‘Uniontown’
B. Projects:
- The display case construction continues to be delayed. An appropriate carpenter has not been located. A case suitable to our needs will be purchased if one can be found.
- Holy Cross Indexing is not currently active. Between 15 and 18 years have been completed.
- Cathedral Day Book project is beginning to get under way.
C. Library:
- The response to our notice in the Gusto section of the Buffalo News has been good.
- Hours: 1st and 2nd Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (to resume in October)
3rd Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm
NEW BUSINESS:
- BIGS website – Jim O’Dea has been corresponding with some people who would like their sites linked to ours. The group does not feel comfortable with this idea but will post an ad for any genealogy sites that request links from us.
- New Irish resources:
- Irish Origins Network (www.origins.net) –This site has excellent indexing. It also has books, discussion groups and photographic collections. The cost is about $80 per year.
- Irish Family History Foundation Centres (by county) – provides on-line record searches. Users purchase amounts of time rather than membership. Not all counties are available as yet.
