Anyone wishing to place a query in the next issue of the Times needs to submit the information prior Mar15th :
Individual genealogy reports continue to be wanted for inclusion in the binder located in the library. If you have already placed your information in the library, please consider if it is time to update it. Information may be submitted in any convenient format.
All members are asked to notify John Blest or Donna Shine whenever they have a change of address and/or email address.
Reminder: Any donation to BIGS that you, your family or your company makes is tax deductible. Gift subscriptions may be purchased at any time and are a good way to promote membership.
C. Correspondence:
We may acquire copies of the 1901 and/or 1911 Irish
Census from the National Archives, Donna is looking into it.
The Irish Cultural and Folk Art Association has donated $500
to us for use in library acquisitions.
The International Institute of Buffalo has suggested that we join them and contribute to their treasury. BIGS’ rule is to make no donations. The only exception to this is the GAAA which has provided us with a home base as well as their library.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. Events
- Gathering of the Clans for 2007 will take place this evening. The theme is the Counties of Ireland. Laurence Shine is providing a lecture on the Provinces and Counties of Ireland
- St. Patrick’s Day Parades: The First Ward parade is on the 17th and the city-wide one on the 18th. 2007 is BIGS’ tenth anniversary. The possibility of a truck for use as a float is being explored. Joan Scahill should be contacted with suggestions and/or offers of assistance.
- The 2007 Irish Festival will be held August 24, 25 and 26.
- 2008 Gathering – suggestions for a theme are wanted
B. Projects:
- New questionnaires are being sent out to update the surname project.
- The Holy Cross Cemetery indexing is currently at 1882. Part of the 1930s has been done as well.
- Suggestions for new projects are welcome.
C. Library hours: 1st and 2nd Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
3rd Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm
NEW BUSINESS:
The possibility of acquiring DSL for the library computer was discussed. The cost would be an additional $30 per month. At present there is very little demand for internet access through the library. Decision on this matter has been deferred.

BIGS President Ed Patton was recently hospitalized. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
Member Mary ‘Petey’ Boesl has been released from Autumnview Health Care Facility. She continues to recuperate at home.
