The Thermoluminescence of Plagioclase

This project involved the construction of a "light-tight" chamber with a photomultiplier tube mounted on the inside. By heating crushed samples inside the chamber, I was able to use the photomultiplier to measure the intensity of thermoluminescence of several plagioclases with varying sodium/calcium concentrations. The goal was to make a correlation between the elemental content of plagioclase and its degree of thermoluminescence.
