The way we have designed The Director's Cut so far makes me think that there is little chance that investors would accept the inherent risk. There are just too many unknowns and "what-ifs". For example: -What if we pick the wrong movie and it is a flop? -What if we can get the props or the rights to the movies we want? -What happens if there are more than one blockbuster hit in one weekend or in consequetive weekends? -How do we redesign each for each theme while not shutting the restaurant down? -What do we do if there is a lull in the movie industry and no blockbuster type movies are released for a long time? -What if one theme is very popular with customers, yet a potential blockbuster is on the horizon? I think I have the answer to these problems...read on, consider it, and get back to me. The hypothetical setting is the summer of 1997, Men In Black has been out for 2 weeks, and today is the opening day for The Lost World. The Director's Cut has been open for over a year. The Director's Cut is a movie theme restaurant consisting of 4 large rooms. Room #1 is the "Bar Room" and is located near the front of the restaurant. The Bar Room has no inherent theme, but is designed with class and ambiance in mind. One MUST pass through the Bar Room to get to one of the 3 remaining rooms. The Bar Room is actually pretty big. It contains the merch shop where we sell our T-shirts, shot glasses, and movie specific stuff. A lot of people come into the Bar Room to have a drink and wait for their movie. The rest of the people are waiting to be seated in one of the remaining rooms. One can easily see the entrances to the other 3 rooms. The entrances themselves look pretty cool and are really enticing. Room #2 is a theme room. It has been open with the Men In Black theme since it opened 2 weeks ago and is still doing well. Room #3 is a theme room. Today is the opening day of The Lost World and also the "Lost World Room". This movie has been hyped for months and months and so most coming to The Director's Cut request to be seated in this room. The room will stay popular for at least 3 weeks we believe. Even though the "Lost World" room fills up quickly, customers are still happy to sit in the Men In Black room. Room #4 is a theme room as well, but is currently under construction, getting ready for the big release of The Fifth Element which is scheduled to open in about a month. Yesterday, this room was open and it's theme was Disaster. It was the "Disaster Room" and it paid tribute to all the other disaster type movies that had been released recently. We wanted to make this room the "Star Trek Room", but were unable to acquire the rights for using that film's name. Well I hope you have a pretty clear picture of my idea. The specifics could change if we wanted to go this route. We might find that we really need an additional room to make it work. This still does not address the issue of high costs associated with the labor and materials required for changing the theme this often.
