| You've been cell good to me! First scene is a man in a suit, business looking walking down a sidewalk in a downtown area. He nears a trash can on a corner. He is talking on his phone, no speech is audible at this time. When he reaches the trash can, you can clearly hear him say as the camera zooms to his back "you've ruined my life!!". With that, he throws the cell phone into the trash a walks off. At this point, the camera zooms in on a homeless looking man setting on the sidewalk, a closeup of his dirty face. The camera is now behind the bum, and the camera focuses on the trash can. Next you see several angles as the bum obviously takes interest in the can, and it's new contents. He is also seen following the business mans steps until he is out of site. The camera follows the man at times also until he is out of site. Now the bum makes his move to the prize. He reaches in the can for the prize. He takes the phone out, holds it up to the sunlight, and his face looks happy. You see through his expressions, he feels the power of connectivity. He pushes a few buttons, and you can hear the phone as the camera does a close-up to his face. The automated voice says" you have unlimited minutes left and a full battery, would you like to make a call?" Charlie was his name, but no one would know that. Nicholas was the business man, but Charlie wouldn't know that. It had been years since there was any connectivity in Charlie's life. He was alone in a world that had forgotten that he fought for them in Nam. Forgotten he had fathered two boys. Forgotten that Charlie was the smartest in his class. And Nic, as they call him, he was not so good in school, but between cheating and paying off teachers with his fathers unlimited bank account he graduated top of his class. He had never fought on the playground much less on a battlefield, and he had no desire to ever have any children. And Charlie was now in a position to make a phone call - but he knew no one. No one except... He did know the number to information and he knew his eldest son was living in the city. So he called information and got his number. Charlie was alive at this point. He hadn't felt this way in years, and at the prospect of talking to his son whom he hadn't seen in forever and a day was exhilerating. And all because of a man he did not know, allowing him the opportunity to make contact with his long lost son. A man that Charlie had seen almost everday for the past two years, he even put change in his cup from time to time. This man, Nic, would help in way he would never know. Charlie had given his boys up for adoption and lost his wife many moons ago but now might be his redemption day. He slowley entered the digits on the cell phone and listened intently. It rang and rang until finally a voice. "Hey you have reached 555-4978 the cell phone of Nicholas Grecirio I'm not available but leave a message and I will get back to you." Charlie said it was him and that he would very much like for the call to be returned but he didn't know the number. Sadly Charlie threw the phone back into the trash can and walked away as if the monent allowed to his had now past and it was time to get on with life as usual. And as the street grew quiet there was two short, strong beeps. It was from the cell phone. As the camera rolls into the trashcan the face of the phone can be read, it says; "Message Received" BHG. |
