HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Miramax Films has committed to co-finance the Tom Stoppard play The Real Thing, which begins its slated 20-week Broadway run on April 17.

The studio previously teamed up with Universal Pictures to acquire the film rights to the 1982 play. Miramax sources said the company is looking into co-financing -- but not fully financing -- other theater productions.

The Real Thing comes to New York's Barrymore Theater after completing a successful three-month run at the Albery Theater in London's West End, which followed a sold-out summer production at the Donmar Warehouse in 1999. It was nominated for four Olivier Awards.

David Leveaux will direct the New York version; it stars Stephen Dillane (Welcome to Sarajevo), Jennifer Ehle, Nigel Lindsay, Sarah Woodward, Joshua Henderson, Charlotte Parry and Oscar Pearce -- all making their Broadway bows.

``I am pleased to be teaming up again with Harvey, a long-standing admirer of my play,'' Stoppard said.
