| In The Sisterhood |
| Molly is a fiesty, fiery, straightforward and outspoken woman in her twenties who is not afraid to stand up for herself or others. She is a high energy character, tough but loving and fiercely protective of those for whom she cares deeply. In this scene, Molly has managed to corner her best friend Sandra's abusive boyfriend. To keep him in line for the moment, she keeps a handgun (might want to mime this one, kids) aimed on him at all times. Through a speech which lays down the law and tells this guy to hit the road, Molly's views and passionate fellings on friendship, relationships, love, and respect are revealed. One chair, placed center, is needed for this piece. Molly should never sit in this chair as it is occupied by Sandra's boyfriend. Her speech should be directed toward him but remember not to turn away from the audience. Any mimed physical interaction with him, such and pushing him into or out of the chair, is a performance plus. Sit. (As if cutting off a protest) Sit! (Pause as she paces before the chair, looking him up and down disgustedly, never taking the gun's aim off him. Outburst.) You make me sick, you know that? Absolutely sick! Just who the hell do you think you are? (Beat, regains control of herself. Soft and dangerous.) I think there's something you don't understand. See... you mess with my girl, you mess with me. Except there's one difference... I fight back! How can you do what you do? How can you even think about abusing a woman? How can you look in a mirror and know that the scars you leave on her body, her mind, and her soul will never go away, and not want to throw yourself off the nearest skyscraper? How can you live with yourself, with someone people will only be around not because they love him, but because they are afraid to leave! Because no one could ever possibly love a man like you. How can you even think about disrespectin a woman? One of the same kind who brought you into this world? How can you hit a woman you know is someone's daughter, sister, mother? Well all I have to say to you is that you had just better watch your step from now on. Because even though one of us women unfortunately had to bring you into this world, there are plenty of us who would be more than willing to take you out. If you ever, ever touch Sandra, if you ever even so much as look at her again, I swear to God that I will make you wish you'd never even thought about crawling out of whatever nasty little hellhole you came from. If you lay a finger on a single hair on her head, I will break you into so many painful little pieces that no doctor, no handyman, and no jigsaw puzzle genius could ever put you back together. Not that anyone would want to! Now get out of here. (She grabs him roughly by the shoulder and shoves him out of the chair. Kicks him as he crawls towards the door.) Get out! And don't you ever, ever come back! |
