Part VI
They were all sitting in Kanes dressing room after the match.  The doctor was looking at Kanes hand.  As they sat there Alex was trying to balance the emotions in the room.  They were all relieved the match was over.  Alex replayed a few of the more tense moments of the match.  She had known Kane would retain the title but couldnt help but be smug Kane had won.  However the match had been hard fought.  The couples were scattered around the room.  The guys minus Jim had watched the match in the DX dressing room.  More than once during the match one of them had to be physically restrained from going down to ringside as they watched the monitors.  Only to be reminded moments later than the girls were more than capable fighters and were no where near intimidated by Paul.  The only casualties of the night were raw nerves and Pauls ego.

"Will you get that silly grin off your face?" Jesse snapped impatiently.   When she'd walked into the dressing room, Jesse had grabbed her up in his arms.  When Alex wiggled free he then started checking her throat to make sure she was okay.  Alex saw his eyes go hard and felt his temper rise as he walked her to a mirror.  He showed her what were going to be bruises in the next few days - in the shape of Paul's hand.

"Nope!" she answered grinning stupidly.  "I can't help it.  I'm feeling pretty good - all things considered." "You almost . . ." Jesse began, gesturing at her throat.  "Yeah . . .yeah . . .yeah." she began, waving her hand dismissive.  "Almost doesn't count." She reminded him. "I'm fine Jesse, really.  Stop looking at me like I'm going to break."   "That bastard had his hand
around your throat!" he reminded her, his voice going dangerously hard.  Alex smiled because she could feel how worried he was and it touched her heart.  She hugged Jesse tightly.  "Jesse, stop fussing.  You're getting as bad as 'Taker." She teased.  "I'm fine and the match is over." She reassured him.  Jesse opened his mouth to continue, so Alex decided to change the subject.

So how many times did you have to stop Hunter or Steve from running to ring side? She asked turning to the group beside her.  Man! Matt groaned, At least twice . . .each!    Another five minutes and we were going to have to tie Jeff to that chair. Jesse mentioned decidding to let the subjec go.  Jeff looked up from where he and RIP were sitting.  Yeah, well you sit idly by while your woman tries to take on some 7ft giant. Jeff countered.  He aint got a woman. Steve mentioned causally, looking up from where he sat with LaShana.  The guys chuckled amongst themselves.  At least Jim got to be out there. Hunter complained from a chair, where he had Leah on his lap.  The rest of us were stuck here watching the dumb monitor.  No way man.  Its harder. Jim interceded.  Youre right there, he paused to run his finger down Ices cheek as she sat next to him, and you know you cant do anything.

Alex turned and whispered to Jesse, How was 'Taker? she asked as she glanced at him and Kanike in another corner of the dressing room.  Surprisingly calm. Jesse admitted, I thought he would be worse.  Actually Im glad.  Im not sure wed have been able to stop him. Alex turned when she heard X-Pac snicker.  Huh? she asked.  X-Pac smiled and looked around the room to make sure no one noticed.  It was a useless gesture; all of her sisters were completely wrapped up in their boyfriends and were oblivious to everything else.  X-Pac directed Alexs attention to the chair 'Taker had been sitting in while he watched the match.  Alex noticed a small pile of something.  What is that? she asked X-Pac quietly.  Pencils. He answered, Every time it got tense hed break one. He smiled.  Alex clasped her hand over her mouth to keep from giggling too loud.  When she did she glanced up at the clock to notice the time.

Oh nuts! she mumbled.  When someone comes up for air and they notice Im gone let them know Ill see them in the morning. She asked Jesse and X-Pac.  Arent you riding back with us? Jesse asked.  Umm . . .no. she hesitated.  I have plans.  Oh . . .I need a room key. She requested, hoping they wouldnt ask too many questions.  We cant leave without you, 'Taker will kill us. X-Pac replied.  Alex giggled, Ill deal with 'Taker.  Ill be fine.  I wont be alone. She explained.  Youve got a date. Jesse guessed.  Alex snatched the card key he held in his hand.  Gotta go. She declared and hurried toward the door.  Jesse followed her out the door and took her arm.  Baby girl, are you sure you should be by yourself? He asked.  I wont be by myself and Im
not telling you who Ill be with. She informed him knowingly.  Jesse sighed and shook his head, Okay, but promise to be careful. He insisted.  Alex groaned and rolled her eyes, Okay, okay . . .I promise to be careful. She replied.  Happy now?  Alex smiled and kissed his cheek, Bye.

Alex made her way down the hall to grab her bag; mentally yelling at herself for leaving it at the far side of the arena.  She allowed her mind to wander to her dinner with Chris.  She knew he was her friend, but over the past couple of weeks she and Chris had been spending a lot of time together.  She had been really scared when Chris and Paul had fought the other night.  She thought about Chris a lot lately.  And when she did, she smiled.  When Chris smiled at her, her stomach did funny little cartwheels.  She was trying to figure out what she was feeling for him.  Chris was one of her favorite people.  Alex wanted to make sure whatever this was she was feeling didnt end up hurting him . . .or herself.

Alex walked back into the dressing room,
I dont remember leaving the light off. She mused.  As she switched on the light, she heard the door slam behind her.  She barely had time to whirl around when she saw a fist come at her.  Alex ducked her head and dropped to one knee.  Alex swept her leg in front of her catching them just behind the knee to knock them down.  Alex dropped back to her butt and rolled backwards to roll away from them.  Alex came up to her feet and crouched like a cat.

How the
hell did you get out of jail? she gritted between clenched teeth.  Tori mirrored her crouch, and an evil smile split her face.  You werent paying attention.  I promised that you would pay. Tori responded.  Alex noted the eerie calm with which she spoke.  Oh hellShe really is insane. Alex thought.  Focus! she ordered herself.  *Kane! Alex reached out, *'Taker!  Toris here.  Shes in the building!  Were in the . . .was as far as she got before Tori leaped at her.
