My name is Dominique Vazquez-Vanasse. A year ago, I married my husband, Pedro, a kind, gentle, caring man from Mexico. Like many Mexicans here in the U.S., he entered the country illegally and was undocumented. He was detained and went through immigration court proceedings where he was granted voluntary departure (NOT deportation)since he had no criminal record. He departed the country on January 12, 2004, and will not be able to return for at least THREE years.
I am now 8 months pregnant with our first child and disabled due to an autoimmune disease. There are also complications with the pregnancy. Despite this, I planned to go with him, and we left together. However, due to visa complications for me, lack of economic resources, and the extreme physical difficulties I encountered just with the travel, we made the heartbreaking decision that I should return home. I am now living with relatives, have no car, and am facing the prospect of caring for a baby without my husband. I relied heavily on him for basic activities of daily living and he is my primary source of emotional support.
We have a lawyer, have an I-130 petition in process, have filed a K-visa and Waiver of Excludability based on hardship, but I understand it is extremely hard to obtain this waiver.
I need my husband and our baby will need his father. The first 4 years of a child's life are crucial in child development and my husband will be gone for 3 of them if nothing can be done. I don't even have the financial resources to visit him, and the person with the most to lose in all of this is our baby.
Any serious suggestions, advice or help would be tremendously appreciated.
