Freddy Krueger
Freddy's mother, Amanda Krueger (Sister Mary Helena), worked for the Springwood Psychiatric Hospital (later renamed Westin Hills Psychiatric). She was a nun and she helped out where ever she could. Amanda was accidentally locked into the unit for the criminally insane over the holidays. She was beaten and raped hundreds of times, the inmates kept her hidden. Finally she was rescued. After being checked out by the medical staff she found out that she was pregnant. Quickly, after Freddy's birth Amanda was told that she could not keep her child because she was a nun so, she gave him up for adoption. She spent the rest of her days at the asylum, deeply depressed.
Freddy was adopted by a young married couple. As Freddy got older a mysterious accident claimed the life of his adopted mother, leaving Freddy in the care of his young adopted father. Freddy was tortured at home by his adopted father and at school by his peers; they had dubbed him the "Son of a 100 Maniacs." His adopted father would beat him, usually with a belt to keep him in line. He also moved Freddy into the basement. His father was an alcoholic and the pain of losing his wife caused him to take it out on young Freddy.
Freddy showed interest in building things. He would build traps and torture devices to catch and kill animals. He also began cutting himself as a teenager. During all of the years of abuse he started to enjoy pain, it was almost like a drug to him. Freddy was in high school around the time of his first known killing. One night Freddy's adopted father caught him cutting himself and Freddy killed him and disposed of the body.
It is unclear where Freddy was for the next few years. Many people believe he left Springwood and traveled around, taking odd jobs. Eventually Freddy moved back to Springwood, Ohio and bought a house at 1665 Elm Street. He took a job at a local power plant; he was in charge of boiler maintenance. He met a young woman named Loretta. They were soon married and had a daughter named Katherine. Loretta married Freddy more out of fear than anything else. She had no relatives of her own. During this time Freddy was experimenting on different methods of killing. He created various gloves with different kinds of razors, spikes and knives on them. He enjoyed having something to kill with that was an extension of himself.
He lived on Elm Street which was lined with houses and it is so long that it cuts Springwood in half. He enjoyed watching the children play and he would pick his favorites. He was aroused by their innocence and he had a growing desire to corrupt them. To kidnap his victims he would routinely study their activities and devised the best time to take them. Krueger's anticipation and craving would build up during this time and he waited for the one moment when no one was watching to take the children. Most of the time he would wait until the entire family was asleep and he would brake into the house.
Once he had his victim, he would take them to the power plant that he worked at. He was solely in charge of this area of the plant so it would be totally empty. In the boiler room, He would do awful things to the children before he finally murdered them. He would often save something of the child's, as many serial killers do, as a memento of the crime. He would take what was left of the child and put it in the boiler so all traces would be consumed by the flames.
There was a secret room in Freddy's basement that housed his deadly creations and "souvenirs" from the murders. One day his wife Loretta stumbled onto the room. She saw everything. Freddy was playing in the back yard with his young daughter when he noticed Loretta come from the basement. He could tell by the look of horror on her face that she had found out about his habits. He quickly told Katherine to go inside of the house because he had to talk to mommy. As soon as Katherine was inside he began yelling at Loretta. He then began throttling her viciously.
Katherine was walking up the basement steps when a door she had not noticed creaked open. She looked inside and saw horrible things. In the room were weapons, news clippings about the Springwood killer, and disgusting things in jars. She was so young she did not fully understand what she was seeing but she knew it was bad. She ran back to the yard to tell her parents when she saw her father hurting her mother. Freddy dropped Loretta and she fell with a thud, dead. Freddy told his daughter that mommy had to "take her medicine for snooping in daddy's special work. You won't tell will you?" Katherine began crying and said "I won't tell."
Freddy disposed of Loretta's body. He had put Katherine in day care while he was at work. Katherine must have mentioned something about Freddy's special room and the accusations began. They took Katherine away and put her in foster care. Freddy killed about 20 Springwood kids. He was arrested and in 1968 Freddy's trial started based on the evidence found in Krueger's house. His lawyer found that a mistake was made on the search warrant so he was set free. During the time of the trial Freddy's mother Amanda had supposedly killed herself.
A group of parents from Elm Street hunted him down at the power plant where he worked. They poured gas all over the place and burned it down with him inside of it. After they killed Freddy, the parents never mentioned him to their kids. Some of the older kids, who knew who Freddy was, made up a jump-rope chant about him. The younger kids learned the chant but never knew that it was about a real person. The words to the Freddy jump rope chant are:
One, two, Freddy's coming for you!
Three, four, better lock your door!
Five, six, grab your crucifix!
Seven, eight, better stay up late!
Nine, ten, never sleep again!
After Krueger's human death he was given the opportunity to get revenge on the mob that killed him. Freddy was given his power by dream demons that look for the most twisted human that they can find and give him the power to turn nightmares into reality. He decided the best way to get back at the angry mob would be to get back at them through their children.
