Etxeberria scores the lone goal |
Aston Villa and Liverpool played in what was not the most exciting match from an offensive perspective. The lone goal came in the 38th minute when Aston Villa was awarded a free kick inside the Liverpool half of the field. The Denilson free kick was missed by Roberto Carlos in the air and found Joaquin whose shot was parried away by Jens Lehmann. Unfortunately, the ball arrived at the feet of Joseba Etxeberria who finished for his 2nd goal of the young CFM campaign. Joaquin who has |

been in sensational form as of later went down injured in the 69th minute. He is expected out for several weeks after damaging his hamstring. Liverpool's biggest problem was their lack of quality crosses from the wings, completing 0%. The visitors continued to face pressure from Aston Villa in the 2nd half, and never really came up with a clean scoring chance late in the game.
