Down Under 2001
| G'day, This is the first update of the 2001 Downunder updates. The fifth of March I flew to Hong Kong. Arrived there I went to the guesthouse in Koloon. It seemed that my room was not ready. So waited a while , but after an hour it was still not ready. So could go to another guesthouse, but also I had to wait for that one. It seemed organised in another way when you do a group ticket with Australian Backpackers. Finally got a shower and a little nap and went to town with the Star Ferry. It looks for me not more then a big city with big buildings. I was glad when I arrived in Sydney , where there is a more atmosphere harbour then in Hong Kong. Although did not much in Sydney besides sleeping and hanging around the harbour. I was still suffering from a jet-lag and a bad cold got from the Carnaval. Planned to do a trip with Oz-experience from Sydney to Melbourne , but it seemed already booked full. So went with the McCafferty's bus , which is a 12 hour trip. So left the rain in Sydney , which the last day I was there and arrived in sunny Melbourne and with the Moomba festival starting the long 'Labour' weekend. In Victoria it was monday labour day , so good reason for a long weekend of partying. The Moomba festival is mixture of several cultural , sport things. So there were Jet-ski contests , motor cross demomstrations , a parade of decorated trams (looks a little bit like carnaval) , lots of live music and food and drinks. So a good start for entering Melbourne. Now life in Melbourne returned to normal and my cold is less. So will spend a few more days relaxing in Melbourne and the heading to Kiwiland. Next update will be from down there. |
