We travel with an odd and interesting assortment of cats, known collectively as the  "Katz".  The Katz have been with us for years, and tolerate the traveling lifestyle  pretty well.  This page is dedicated to featuring the four-legged members of the family.  The stuffed animals in the coach window (above) are decoys...
Murphy
Murphy is probably the smartest cat I have ever had.  As one can tell from the photos, he is a Manx, that is, a breed that is born with no tail.  A lot of people ask if he is a bobcat, and I explain that while I wanted to name him Bob, Nancy wouldn't let me.  Murphy wears a harness when he goes for a walk on the leash.  I was suprised at how quickly he adapted to the harness, as most cats will fight to get it off.  Murphy apparently figured out that if he was going to go out, he had to wear that contraption.  Murphy will walk along beside me, just like a dog walks, with only a little encouragement.  When we were at Sugarloaf Key KOA, I worked security at night and Murphy would ride along with me on the golf cart for a couple of hours each night.  He wasn't much help at subduing drunks and other rowdy people, so I limited his "help" to a couple of hours.  I am convinced that Murphy has to be the reincarnation of some person, but I can't figure out who it is.  Whoever it is, that person apparently enjoyed a good nip now and then, as is evidenced in the photo below, and he prefers a shower to licking himself clean, as seen in the far below photo.
Murphy takes his Irish ancestry seriously.  I prefer Scotch to Irish whisky, but Murphy can't abide Scotch.  He does appreciate Bacardi Select, and while I don't mind keeping it on hand,I have to keep it locked up for obvious reasons.
Murphy is much too sophisticated to resort to licking his fur clean.  He was thrilled when he discovered he could turn on the water in the shower.  He does have problems turning the water off and will usually leave it on for Nancy or I to turn off.  For shampoo, Murphy prefers Pert to Head & Shoulders, but will use the Head & Shoulders in a pinch.  He had so many problems not being able to hold the razor that he gave up shaving.  Not having opposable thumbs is a hassle, isn't it?
