Sexing your Dutch Rabbit
A very experienced breeder can sometimes determine sex on kits as young as 2 weeks old.  For the rest of us it may take until the kits are six or eight weeks of age before we can be sure of the sex.  If you are just learning or you have a pet you would like to identify, this page is for you.

You start by cradling the rabbit upside down in one hand or arm.  Then you place the thumb of your other hand on the tail of the rabbit and your index finger just in front of the genital area.
Apply pressure with your index finger.
This is what an 8 week old buck looks like.
Notice that the protruding penis has a round "cheerio" look.
This is what an 8 week old doe looks like.
Notice that her genital protrusion is a long slit.
This is what an adult buck looks like.
Notice the protruding penis and testicles slightly above to either side
This is what an adult doe looks like.
Notice that her genital protrusion is still a long slit.
