When blown into the hair will part displaying what looks like rings of color.  These agouti hairs should cover the  body and head.  Among the agouti hairs, and evenly dispersed, there should be black guard hairs.  Narrow black lacing on the ears is desired and the eye circles should be narrow and tan.  The belly of a gray should be white or cream on the surface and a slate blue undercoat.  The belly color should extend from the inside of the hind legs and to the undercut.  The tail of the gray should compliment the body color over the top and the underside should closely match the belly color.  Grays are faulted for white hairs in colored portions, a light or brassy body color, and unevenly disbused black guard hairs.

Grays are disqualified from showing for a lack of intermediate ring color on agouti hairs or the lack of the slate blue undercoat on the belly.

The eyes of a gray should always be dark brown.
