| My feelings for this event are very mixed. My heart honestly goes out to all the families and all the people who lost their lives and didn't deserve to die. However, it's nothing new. It happens everyday in other countries. In Israel if that happened sure it'd be on the news for maybe a week but after that it's gone. It happens everyday. It was only because it happened in America that it's being made into such an issue across the world. Because it hurt America's pride. The United States of America is seen as one of the greatest powers of the world, and when something like this happens that hurts it's economy, it's citizens, it's pride, it's spread across the world. And now you can't go anywhere without being reminded of this tragedy. for almost 2 weeks after 9-11 that was all that was on the front of every paper, then slowly, ever sooooooo slowly stories on the event would be pushed farther and farther into the paper. And JUST when you think you had seen the last of it, JUST WHEN!!! 9-11-02 comes around the corner, and of course there are papers covering the memorial ceremony in 10 different countries. I honestly wish this event never happened, I honestly wish that people didn't have to die. But it happens. And we are to get over it. We are not to dwell on this event for the rest of our lives and remember the horrors and terrors of that day. Rather make this a lesson, and already action has been taken to prevent an event such as this never to happen again. However, what's to stop someone from highjacking a cruise ship and running it aground some populated shoreline? Another thing, just because planes were hijacked, and crashed into an important building, and hurt a nation's pride, it does NOT give license to launch a full attack on the country. Being the strongest country does not mean you can take advantage of your power and tear apart a whole country looking for one man. You don't have to prove your machoism by conquoring another country, that was already done with Napoleon. Yes, so I hope I didn't offend anyone, these are just my views on what happened. Being canadian this really affected me seeing that our economy basically depends on the survival on the US for military support and basically all needs and prospects of life. And one more thing, heehee, competition. It's so fun to compete with Americans as to who has the best culture. (of course WE do, eh? nobody hates us, maybe americans but we all know it's because they're jealous =P) |
