JULY

Canada Day (Canada) didnt know about this holiday back then! Independence Day, learned that in school. The celebrations were different in those days. People went to parks to picnic or stayed home. No big deal. There were parades but I never saw any that I can remember. Our big thing was going to Saucon Park. Now I know I spoke of this park before but what I didnt mention was the rose garden tended to by a fine Italian Gentleman. Every one ohhhed and ahhed about the roses. We kids did that with the doll house he built in the middle. I dont really remember it too well but my cousin Helen tells me about it.

It was perfection with everything in there that is suppose to be, including a family! I dont know if the gentleman made the furniture or if he had someone else do it. But it was beautiful. The windows even had curtains on them and the windows really had glass. Every detail down to the smallest including the newspaper on the front porch.

I would sit and look at that while grammy and nina looked at the roses and helped themselves to some clippings to root at home.

When they were ready we would walk deeper into the park and meet the rest of the family. Then we of course ate. The watermelon was kept cold by being put in the creek and no one took anyone elses. How quaint. We knew what ever went into the creek would be there when we wanted it. I got the job to put the rocks in a semi circle to keep things from floating away. Now thats one job I did like.

Once there was a merry-go-round I loved that! The boys and men played ball and so did the girls. We all had fun. Then the sun would start to set and it was time to get ready to catch the trolley. The whole day was good and you knew it if you were tired and dirty!

A few years ago Rich and I rode through Saucon Park and it was not the same. Things changed and it seemed run down. What a shame that it wasnt kept up for future families to enjoy.

I can still enjoy it in my memory and also by talking with my cousin Helen. Thanks for the Memories!
